IRS Officer Arrested For Harassing Woman IAS Officer

A case under the IPC sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-D (Stalking), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) has been lodged.

Delhi Police have arrested an IRS officer for allegedly harassing a female IAS officer. The accused has been held for stalking and sexually harassing the officer. A complaint was lodged by the victim at Delhi’s Parliament Street police station.

The victim has alleged that she met the IRS officer in 2020 while working in the COVID-19 support group.

According to the FIR, Sohail Malik, a 2010 batch IRS officer, was harassing the victim for three years. The victim is posted as a Joint Secretary in an Union Ministry and her husband is also an IAS officer.

She alleged that the accused tried to get close to her several times but she kept refusing his advances. When her husband got to know about it, he confronted the accused and told him to mend his ways.

Despite that, the victim said the accused allegedly kept harassing her and kept messaging her to meet.

A case under sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-D (Stalking), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC has been lodged.

As per the FIR, the victim stated that she was a member of a WhatsApp group named ‘Karuna Cooperation Group’ during the Covid crisis. In order to help the victims, she came in contact with the IRS officer posted as Resident Commissioner in Bihar Bhavan. The accused was also a member of the WhatsApp group.

The victim said that the accused often tried to get close to her, but she used to ignore him. The victim also warned several times.

When the accused did not stop, finally the victim told her husband about the incident. Then the victim’s husband also threatened the accused of legal action on July 31 last year.

After a few months gap, the accused started stalking the victim again from January this year.

IAS officer said that the accused also came to meet her at her office and tried to intimidate her to get into a relationship with him.
