Senior IPS Sahota appointed DGP of Punjab

Senior IPS officer Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota appointed DGP, Punjab. He will also continue to hold the charge of Special DGP, Armed Battalion, Punjab. Strict vigilance on drugs and law &order maintenance are hos top priorities.

Chandigarh: The State Government of Punjab has appointed Director General of Police (DGP), Armed Battalions, Jalandhar, Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota as the new DGP, Punjab relieving DGP Dinkar Gupta on Saturday.

Mr. Sahota, a 1988 IPS officer of the Punjab cadre, belongs to the Dalit community. Formerly, he also served as DGP, Punjab Home Guards and Commandant General Civil Defence.

The orders issued by the State Government also stated that Mr. Sahota would also continue to hold the charge of Special DGP, Armed Battalion, Punjab.

Mr. Sahota held a meeting with all the top brass of the Punjab Police where he claimed his priorities include maintenance of law and order in the state, with strict vigilance on drugs and other bad elements.

Formerly, Mr. Sahota also served as ADGP, PAP Jalandhar, ADGP Railways, ADGP Prisons, ADGP Administration, Director Bureau of Investigation, etc. in Punjab Police.
