Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, has approved two major decisions aimed at supporting former Agniveer soldiers and ensuring timely fertilizer availability for farmers across the state.

The Cabinet approved the Chhattisgarh Agniveer Soldier Reservation (Reservation of Vacancies in Class III Posts under State Civil Services) Rules, 2026, providing 10% reservation for Agniveers in direct recruitment to Class III government posts.

The Cabinet also approved the formation of a ministerial sub-committee to monitor fertilizer supply, distribution, and management during the Kharif and Rabi crop seasons.

Chhattisgarh Approves 10% Reservation for Agniveers in Government Jobs

In a significant move for former Agniveer personnel, the Chhattisgarh government has approved 10% reservation in direct recruitment for Class III posts under state civil services.

The reservation will particularly apply to recruitment in:

  • Police Department: Constable posts
  • Forest and Climate Change Department: Forest Guard posts
  • Jail Department: Warder posts

The decision aims to provide better employment opportunities to Agniveers who complete their service in the Indian Armed Forces and return to civilian life.

Eligibility Criteria for Agniveer Reservation

The benefit of the reservation will be available to those former Agniveers who:

  • Have completed four years of service in the Indian Armed Forces
  • Have been released from service after completing their tenure
  • Possess a valid service certificate issued by the armed forces

The government believes that the training, discipline, and experience gained by Agniveers during military service will strengthen departments such as police, forests, and prisons.

Decision Implemented Following CM Vishnu Deo Sai’s Assembly Announcement

The approval of Agniveer reservation rules follows an announcement made by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on July 26, 2024.

The state government said the move reflects its commitment to ensuring dignified employment opportunities for former Agniveers and helping them contribute their skills and experience to government services.

Cabinet Forms Committee to Ensure Timely Fertilizer Supply to Farmers

The Chhattisgarh Cabinet has also approved the formation of a ministerial sub-committee to improve fertilizer supply, distribution, and management in the state.

The committee will focus on ensuring that farmers receive fertilizers on time without disruption during important agricultural seasons.

The panel will monitor:

  • Availability of fertilizers
  • Supply chain management
  • Distribution systems
  • Seasonal requirements during Kharif and Rabi crops

Deputy CM Arun Sao to Head Fertilizer Monitoring Committee

The fertilizer management committee will be chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, who handles departments including:

  • Public Works Department
  • Public Health Engineering Department
  • Urban Administration and Development Department
  • Sports and Youth Welfare Department

Other members of the committee include:

  • Ramvichar Netam, Minister for Agriculture Development and Farmer Welfare
  • Kedar Kashyap, Minister for Cooperation
  • O.P. Choudhary, Finance Minister

The Agriculture Production Commissioner will serve as the coordinator of the committee.

Committee Can Seek Expert Advice on Fertilizer Management

The committee has been given authority to invite officials from relevant departments, subject experts, and representatives of other organisations whenever required.

The panel will provide recommendations and guidance to the state government regarding:

  • Fertilizer availability
  • Supply planning
  • Distribution challenges
  • Better management practices

The objective is to create a smooth fertilizer supply system and prevent difficulties faced by farmers during crop seasons.

Key Decisions Taken in Chhattisgarh Cabinet Meeting

The major decisions approved during the Cabinet meeting include:

  • 10% reservation for former Agniveers in Class III direct recruitment
  • Reservation benefits for police constables, forest guards, and jail warders
  • Formation of a ministerial committee for fertilizer supply monitoring
  • Focus on uninterrupted fertilizer availability during Kharif and Rabi seasons
  • Strengthening employment opportunities for trained Agniveer personnel
  • Improving agricultural support systems for farmers

Government’s Focus on Employment and Farmer Welfare

The latest Cabinet decisions highlight the Chhattisgarh government’s focus on two major areas — employment opportunities for youth and support for farmers.

The Agniveer reservation policy aims to utilise the skills and discipline of trained military personnel in state services, while the fertilizer monitoring committee is expected to improve agricultural productivity by ensuring timely availability of essential farm inputs.

The decisions were taken during the Chhattisgarh Cabinet meeting held at Mahanadi Bhawan, Raipur, under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.
