Raipur: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced that the state government will transfer over ₹10,000 crore to farmers as part of the price differential for paddy under the Krishak Unnati Yojana ahead of Holi. The initiative is expected to directly benefit more than 25 lakh farmers across Chhattisgarh, reinforcing the government’s commitment to agricultural prosperity and rural economic growth.
The state government is purchasing paddy at ₹3,100 per quintal, one of the highest rates in the country, ensuring farmers receive fair compensation for their produce.
Krishak Unnati Yojana: Timely Support for Farmers
Chief Minister Sai highlighted the importance of farmers as the backbone of India’s economy. “The prosperity and welfare of our farmers are essential to realizing the dream of a developed India,” he said during a cordial interaction with farmers from various districts at his residence office.
The payout under Krishak Unnati Yojana will begin on February 28 from Bilaspur district, with celebrations planned across all development blocks. This timely financial assistance aims to strengthen rural livelihoods and provide direct support to farming communities.
Record Paddy Procurement and Premium Rates
The government has procured 141 lakh metric tons of paddy from 25.24 lakh farmers this year. On average, farmers are yielding 21 quintals per acre, and the state is purchasing at ₹3,100 per quintal, providing one of the most lucrative paddy rates in India. This reflects both the dedication of farmers and the government’s proactive measures to ensure fair pricing.
Supportive Central and State Initiatives
Chief Minister Sai acknowledged the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s farmer-centric policies. He emphasised that initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana have expanded irrigation coverage, improving productivity and supporting sustainable agriculture in the state.
The CM also highlighted the benefits of the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme, initiated during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure, which provides farmers with low-interest or interest-free loans, reducing dependence on informal moneylenders and enabling investment in modern farming practices.
Strengthening Rural Economy and Farmer Welfare
The Holi-time payout is part of a broader strategy to boost farmers’ incomes, promote agricultural sustainability, and strengthen the rural economy. Chief Minister Sai reassured that the state government remains committed to working relentlessly for farmers’ welfare.
The event was attended by prominent figures including Chandrasahas Chandrakar, Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Seed Development Corporation, along with farmers from across the state, who expressed gratitude for the timely support and recognition of their hard work.
Holistic Focus on Agriculture and Rural Development
The Krishak Unnati Yojana payout, record paddy procurement, premium pricing, and supportive infrastructure initiatives highlight Chhattisgarh’s focus on creating a robust agricultural ecosystem. These measures aim to ensure fair income, reduce financial stress, improve productivity, and secure long-term prosperity for the state’s farming community.
