Raipur (Chhattisgarh): The Chhattisgarh government has announced a massive expansion of the Chief Minister’s Rural Bus Service scheme, aiming to connect around 1,000 villages that have never had public transport access since India’s independence. This historic initiative is expected to open new avenues of development, especially in remote tribal regions such as Bastar and Surguja.
Under this expansion, the state government has introduced 100 new bus routes across Chhattisgarh, of which 57 routes have already been operational, directly benefiting over 410 villages. Residents in these areas will now find it easier to access district headquarters, local markets, hospitals, and educational institutions, significantly improving their mobility.
Bus Service Reaches Previously Unconnected Villages
For the first time since independence, public transport is reaching villages that were geographically isolated from the main administrative and economic hubs. The primary objective of this scheme is to connect around 1,000 villages that remained cut off due to difficult terrain.
The initiative is particularly transformative for the Bastar and Surguja divisions, which have a high concentration of tribal populations. With buses now running successfully on 57 routes, thousands of residents are experiencing a direct improvement in their day-to-day mobility and access to essential services.

Enhanced Mobility for Villagers
The rural bus service is expected to significantly ease travel for local residents, accelerating both economic and social development. Students in remote villages can now travel to colleges more easily, patients can reach hospitals on time, and farmers can transport their produce to markets efficiently.
This initiative reflects the Chief Minister’s commitment to bringing development to the “last person” and ensures that even the most remote tribal and forested areas of the state are integrated into the mainstream.
Opening New Pathways for Development
Beyond improving transport, the scheme is seen as a catalyst for broader growth. Better connectivity facilitates access to education, healthcare, and markets, creating new opportunities for economic participation in remote regions. Farmers can sell their crops in larger markets, businesses can expand, and students can pursue higher education without facing logistical challenges.
By extending the rural bus network to previously unconnected villages, the government is not only improving mobility but also laying the foundation for sustainable economic and social progress in Chhattisgarh’s tribal and remote areas.
This historic expansion marks a major step in fulfilling the state government’s vision of inclusive development and ensuring that the benefits of growth reach every corner of Chhattisgarh.
