Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday addressed the “All India Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Meet 2026” at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Memorial Health Sciences and Ayush University in Nava Raipur, highlighting major reforms and future expansion plans in the state’s healthcare sector.
He described the event as a historic opportunity for academic exchange and policy innovation in medical education and healthcare delivery.
Focus on Healthcare Infrastructure Expansion in Chhattisgarh
The Chief Minister said the state has made significant progress in healthcare over the last two years. Key developments include:
- 5 new medical colleges under construction
- 14 nursing colleges being built
- 1 homeopathy college in progress
He emphasized that a strong healthcare system is essential for building a developed Chhattisgarh.
Ayushman Bharat Scheme Bringing Relief to Poor Families
CM Sai highlighted the impact of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which provides up to ₹5 lakh coverage for poor families.
He said earlier many families had to take loans for medical treatment, but the situation has improved significantly.
Medisity Hub and 5,000-Bed Super Specialty Hospital Planned
The Chief Minister announced the development of a Medisity hub in the capital region along with a proposed 5,000-bed super specialty hospital.
He said this initiative will provide world-class healthcare facilities within Chhattisgarh and reduce dependency on treatment outside the state.
Rising Health Challenges and “Arogya Mandir” Initiative
CM Sai noted increasing cases of diabetes and cancer in rural areas and said the government is focusing on preventive healthcare.
He highlighted the Centre’s “Arogya Mandir” initiative aimed at promoting awareness about healthy lifestyles. He also mentioned plans for three Ayurvedic AIIMS institutions in the country.
Rich Medicinal Plant Resources in the State
The Chief Minister said nearly 44% of Chhattisgarh is forest-covered and rich in medicinal plants, offering strong potential for Ayurveda and traditional medicine.
He also praised Padma Shri awardee Hechhaman Maji for his contribution to traditional healing practices.
India’s Ancient Medical and Educational Heritage
CM Sai referred to India’s ancient universities such as Nalanda, Takshashila, and Vikramshila, highlighting the country’s rich knowledge tradition.
He also said Ayurveda is deeply rooted in Indian culture and reflects the philosophy of “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah.”
India’s COVID-19 Response and Vaccine Success
The Chief Minister praised India’s achievements during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the development of three vaccines and assistance provided to other countries.
Doctors Urged to Serve with Compassion
CM Sai appealed to doctors to uphold service ethics and sensitivity, stating that medical professionals hold a respected position in society next only to God.
AI and Technology in Healthcare Transformation
Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said the state is integrating AI and modern technology into healthcare services.
He also highlighted the introduction of Hindi-medium medical education and plans to strengthen emergency medical infrastructure.

The Health Minister also announced:
- 5 medical colleges
- 14 nursing colleges
- 2 mental hospitals
- 275 modern ambulances
- Health screening for 36 lakh people in Sukma from April 13
