Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has said the state’s upcoming Film City, being developed at an estimated cost of around ₹650 crore, will expand opportunities for film production and shooting while creating avenues for local artists, technicians and youth.
Sai made the remarks while addressing a Teej Milan programme organised at the official residence of Revenue Minister Tank Ram Verma in Nava Raipur on Tuesday.
Film City to Support Local Talent
According to the Chief Minister, the project is expected to create employment and provide a platform for local talent, besides supporting tourism in the state.
- The project is identified in government records as the Chitrotpala Film City in Raipur.
- The Centre sanctioned ₹95.79 crore for its development under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme for developing iconic tourist centres. A later government update lists the project as ongoing.
- Sai said the Film City would strengthen opportunities for film production and shooting in Chhattisgarh and help showcase the state’s folk art, culture and traditions.
“Artists have made an invaluable contribution to keeping Chhattisgarh’s folk art and culture alive,” Sai said, adding that their work has taken the state’s traditions to audiences across India and abroad.
Artists who have contributed to promoting Chhattisgarh’s folk art and culture were also felicitated during the programme.
Women’s Economic Empowerment
Sai also highlighted the government’s focus on women’s economic participation, saying women should be treated as equal participants in building a developed Chhattisgarh rather than merely as beneficiaries of welfare schemes.
He said more than 68 lakh women are receiving ₹1,000 every month under the Mahtari Vandan Yojana. According to the CM, more than ₹20,000 crore has been transferred to beneficiaries through 31 instalments.
Sai further said 13.85 lakh women in the state have become “Lakhpati Didis”, while women are using financial assistance for household needs, children’s education, savings and small self-employment activities.
The Chief Minister also said Chhattisgarh has made progress in tackling Naxalism and that areas previously affected by violence are now seeing development-related activities.
