Raipur: Chhattisgarh has received investment proposals worth ₹13,840 crore at the ‘Chhattisgarh Industry Dialogue on Green Steel’, with the proposed projects expected to create 10,921 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who attended the event organised by the Chhattisgarh Government in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), called for greater value addition within the state by promoting downstream and speciality steel manufacturing.

CM Calls for More Value Addition Within Chhattisgarh

Sai said steel and mining remain important foundations of Chhattisgarh’s industrial economy, but the state’s focus should extend beyond primary steel production.

He called for steel produced in the state to be processed locally into downstream and speciality products, including:

  • Automobile components
  • Engineering products
  • Railway equipment
  • Defence-related products
  • Solar energy equipment

The Chief Minister said greater value addition within the state would help create employment opportunities locally.

Green Steel Gains Focus

Sai said global efforts towards achieving net-zero emissions are accelerating the transition towards green steel and noted that Chhattisgarh is among the states that have adopted the shift towards greener steel production.

According to the state government, Chhattisgarh has more than 26,000 MW of available electricity capacity, along with competitive industrial electricity tariffs. The government highlighted these factors in the context of opportunities for energy-intensive downstream manufacturing.

Nearly ₹8 Lakh Crore Investment Proposals in 18 Months

The Chief Minister said Chhattisgarh’s Industrial Development Policy 2024-30 has opened new avenues for investment.

According to him, the state has received investment proposals worth approximately ₹8 lakh crore over the past 18 months. These proposals span traditional sectors such as steel and mining as well as emerging sectors including:

  • Artificial intelligence and data centres
  • Semiconductors
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Textiles
  • Agro-processing

State Highlights Ease-of-Doing-Business Reforms

Sai also highlighted reforms undertaken to improve the business environment in the state.

Chhattisgarh has implemented an Ease of Doing Business Act, under which provisions include self-certification for low-risk enterprises, risk-based regulatory mechanisms and deemed approvals where applications are not disposed of within the prescribed timeframe.

The government said these reforms are expected to benefit around 15 lakh MSMEs in the state.

The Chief Minister also cited Chhattisgarh’s performance in the CRISIL-NITI Aayog Investment Friendliness Index 2026, saying the state ranked first among major states in Regulatory Ease and Institutional Environment, and second in Environmental Resilience. He also noted that Chhattisgarh recently received the GeM Sustainable Procurement Award.

New Industrial Parks Planned Beyond Raipur-Bhilai

The state government is also seeking to expand industrial development beyond the traditional Raipur-Bhilai industrial belt.

Four new industrial parks have been approved in Rajnandgaon, Dhamtari, Janjgir-Champa and Bastar districts.

The Centre has also approved an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC 2.0) in Rajnandgaon spread over approximately 306 acres. The state government said the cluster could attract large-scale investment and generate around 9,000 employment opportunities.

Companies from the semiconductor, electric vehicle and smart electronics sectors have shown interest in the proposed cluster, according to the state government.

CM Invites Investors to Chhattisgarh

Inviting investors to the state, Sai said:

“Our policy is clear, processes are transparent and approvals are being provided within the stipulated time. There is no place for red tape here. We will work together and write a new success story together.”

The Chief Minister said the state aims to use green steel and downstream manufacturing to increase value addition, investment and employment within Chhattisgarh.
