Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced that Guru Purnima will be celebrated across the state as “Maharishi Sandipani Shraddha Parv” to promote India’s ancient knowledge tradition and the revered Guru-Shishya (teacher-disciple) tradition.
Chairing a review meeting on preparations for the upcoming Guru Purnima celebrations, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure wide participation from educational institutions and complete all pending inaugurations of Sandipani schools before the festival.
Guru Purnima to Be Celebrated as Maharishi Sandipani Shraddha Parv
CM Mohan Yadav said that teachers have always been worthy of respect and reverence because they guide individuals from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge.
He said the statewide celebration aims to:
- Promote the ideals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
- Preserve India’s ancient knowledge systems.
- Strengthen the Guru-Shishya tradition.
- Inspire students through Indian cultural values.
The Chief Minister directed that all government and private educational institutions actively participate in the celebrations.

Pending Sandipani Schools to Be Inaugurated Before Guru Purnima
Dr. Mohan Yadav instructed officials to complete the inauguration of all remaining Sandipani Schools before Guru Purnima.
He said Maharishi Sandipani, the guru of Lord Krishna, made significant contributions to India’s Gurukul education system by imparting education equally to students from all sections of society.
The Chief Minister also directed officials to publish a 10–20-page booklet highlighting:
- The life and teachings of Maharishi Sandipani.
- His contribution to the Gurukul education system.
- His role in promoting patriotism and value-based education.
The booklet will be distributed across schools in Madhya Pradesh.
Guru Worship Programmes to Be Held Across Educational Institutions
The Chief Minister directed that Guru Pujan (teacher worship) ceremonies be organized in:
- Government schools.
- Private schools.
- Colleges and universities.
- Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
Local public representatives will also be invited to participate in these programmes.
He further suggested that schools use Friendship Day celebrations to educate students about the lifelong friendship of Lord Krishna and Sudama, highlighting the importance of friendship and values.
Government Wants Guru Purnima to Become a People’s Festival
CM Mohan Yadav said Guru Purnima should become a people’s movement with active community participation.
He said the celebrations should:
- Encourage respect for teachers among students.
- Promote Indian cultural and educational traditions.
- Inspire youth through the Guru-Shishya tradition.
- Reach every section of society through educational and cultural activities.
The Chief Minister instructed that government institutions, private schools, colleges, and universities should all be part of the campaign.
Statewide Cultural and Educational Programmes Planned
During the meeting, officials discussed the framework of Guru Purnima celebrations and departmental responsibilities.
According to Additional Chief Secretary Shiv Shekhar Shukla, educational institutions across the state will organize several activities on July 29, including:
- Floral tribute to Goddess Saraswati.
- Saraswati Vandana.
- Felicitation and honouring of teachers.
- Inspirational lectures and addresses.
- Student-teacher interaction sessions.
- Cultural performances.
- Literary and educational competitions.
Students will take the lead in organizing literary and cultural activities in schools, colleges, and universities.
Public Participation to Strengthen Indian Cultural Values
Officials said efforts are being made to ensure active participation from society in celebrating Guru Purnima and Maharishi Sandipani Shraddha Parv.
The initiative aims to:
- Preserve India’s educational heritage.
- Strengthen respect for teachers.
- Spread the message of the Guru-Shishya tradition.
- Introduce younger generations to India’s ancient knowledge system.
The state government believes the celebration will become a cultural and educational movement that reinforces traditional values while supporting the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020.
High-Level Meeting Reviews Preparations
The review meeting was attended by several senior ministers and officials, including representatives from the departments of Tribal Affairs, Higher Education, Technical Education, School Education, Health, Culture, Tourism, and Skill Development.
The Madhya Pradesh government said coordinated efforts across departments will ensure the successful statewide celebration of Maharishi Sandipani Shraddha Parv on Guru Purnima.
