Ranchi: Jharkhand is set to take a major step towards strengthening its creative and cultural ecosystem as Chief Minister Hemant Soren will inaugurate the state’s first Film and Television Institute on July 22. Established with the technical collaboration of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata, the institute is expected to provide professional education and create new opportunities for aspiring filmmakers and artists across the state.

With the launch of the institute, Jharkhand will join the list of select Indian states that have dedicated institutions for film and television education.

First Film Institute to Boost Creative Education in Jharkhand

The newly established institute aims to provide professional training in various fields of the film and television industry, enabling students to build careers without leaving the state.

The institute will offer training in:

  • Acting.
  • Screenwriting.
  • Cinematography.
  • Film editing.
  • Sound design.

Despite this cultural richness, many local stories and talented artists have struggled to gain recognition at the national and international levels.

The Jharkhand Government aims to establish the state as more than just a destination known for its mineral wealth and natural resources.

Through the new Film and Television Institute, the government hopes to position Jharkhand as an emerging centre for:

  • Film production.
  • Creative arts.
  • Cultural preservation.
  • Media education.
  • Entertainment industry development.

The institute is expected to play a key role in nurturing local talent while strengthening the state’s cultural identity.

The institute is expected to provide young filmmakers, actors, writers, and technicians with the skills, infrastructure, and opportunities needed to pursue successful careers in the entertainment industry.

Officials believe the initiative will not only help aspiring artists realize their dreams but also establish Jharkhand as an important destination for India’s growing film and television industry.
