Champawat: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has launched a major development drive in Champawat, announcing and laying the foundation stones for 17 projects worth over ₹124 crore, aimed at transforming the district into a “model district” of Uttarakhand.
The announcements were made during a public interaction and foundation stone ceremony, where the Chief Minister described Champawat as his “karmabhoomi” (workplace) and extended family, saying the region holds a special emotional connection for him.
Vision to Transform Champawat into a Model District
CM Dhami stated that the projects are not isolated works but part of a long-term vision to develop Champawat into a fully modern and self-sustained district.
He said the government is focusing on:
- Modern healthcare infrastructure
- Road and connectivity upgrades
- Education and sports development
- Tourism and employment generation
- Drinking water and power reforms
According to him, the goal is to ensure that every village becomes part of the mainstream development process.
Key Highlight: MRI Facility and Critical Healthcare Upgrade
A major announcement was the installation of an MRI facility at the District Hospital in Champawat, along with a 50-bed critical care unit.
The Chief Minister said this will ensure:
- Better emergency treatment facilities locally
- Reduced need for patients to travel outside the district
- Strengthening of overall health infrastructure
He emphasized that healthcare improvement remains a top priority for the government.
₹62 Crore City Centre and Urban Development Push
One of the biggest infrastructure projects includes a ₹62.33 crore multi-storey City Centre and commercial complex at the Roadways campus.
This project is expected to:
- Boost local trade and tourism
- Create new employment opportunities
- Strengthen urban infrastructure in Champawat
The Chief Minister also highlighted the development of the Corbett Trail project, which will promote tourism in the region.
Women’s Sports College and Youth Development Projects
A major focus was placed on sports and youth development, including the proposed ₹257 crore Women’s Sports College in Lohaghat and a synthetic athletic track at Chhamnaya.
These projects aim to:
- Train women athletes at national and international levels
- Provide modern sports infrastructure in the hills
- Open new career opportunities for youth
Additionally, plans for a science centre, adventure park, and innovation hubs were also mentioned.
Infrastructure Development: Roads, Housing & Connectivity
Several road and infrastructure projects were launched, including:
- Road widening and blacktopping across multiple routes
- Rural connectivity improvements
- Development of ISBT, guest houses, and community halls in Tanakpur
- Beautification of temples and religious sites
- Ongoing underground electricity cabling work
These projects aim to improve both mobility and urban planning in the district.
Tourism Boom from Adi Kailash Yatra
CM Dhami highlighted the economic impact of the Adi Kailash Yatra, stating that tourism has significantly boosted the local economy.
He noted:
- Over 50,000 tourists already visited
- Numbers expected to cross 100,000 soon
- Homestays and hotels are operating at full capacity
Tourism-linked projects like the Corbett Trail and adventure parks are also expected to generate new employment opportunities.
Employment and Governance Reforms
The Chief Minister claimed that more than 33,000 jobs have been created in Uttarakhand through various reforms and initiatives.
Key policy steps include:
- Anti-copying law in recruitment exams
- Anti-conversion law
- Strict action on land encroachment cases
- Governance reforms for transparency
He said these measures were necessary to ensure fair governance and long-term development.

Political Remarks and 2027 Election Message
In a politically charged address, CM Dhami said the government is focused on development rather than vote-bank politics.
He also expressed confidence in future elections, stating that those who have governed for decades will face public accountability in the upcoming 2027 elections.
