Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed authorities to strengthen technology-based monitoring in police recruitment processes and ensure complete transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to reservation norms.
He emphasized that all selection procedures must be conducted in a time-bound manner, prioritizing candidates’ convenience and procedural integrity.
Review of Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board
The Chief Minister was addressing a review meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board in Lucknow. He stated that 2026 is a crucial year for strengthening and modernizing the state police force, with recruitment underway for more than 81,000 posts.
He also appreciated the functioning of the recruitment board and instructed officials to ensure regular monitoring and maximum use of technology.
Over 81,000 Police Vacancies Under Recruitment Process
Officials informed that recruitment is currently underway for a total of 81,472 posts, including:
- 4,543 Sub-Inspector and equivalent posts
- 41,424 Home Guard posts
- 32,679 Constable and equivalent posts
- 1,352 Computer Operator Grade-A posts
- 537 Sub-Inspector (Confidential) and clerical/account posts
- 55 Programmer Grade-2 posts
- 44 Radio Assistant Operator posts
- 637 skilled player recruitment posts
- 201 deceased dependent posts
Recruitment Timelines Announced for Major Exams
The government also outlined key timelines for ongoing and upcoming recruitment processes:
- Sub-Inspector Recruitment 2025: Final result expected in July (third week)
- Home Guard Recruitment 2025: Final result expected in September (second week)
- Constable recruitment exams: Scheduled for June 8, 9, and 10, 2026 with around 28 lakh applicants
- Final results for constable recruitment: Expected by October 2026 (last week)
- Skilled player recruitment: Final result expected in June 2026 (second week)
Other technical and clerical recruitments are also progressing in phases.
Promotion Process for Over 9,400 Police Personnel
The meeting also reviewed promotion processes, with officials confirming that promotions for 9,406 personnel are currently underway. Departmental examinations and evaluation work are in progress.
Since 2017, a total of 1,60,819 police personnel have been promoted, reflecting large-scale restructuring within the force.
Over 2.21 Lakh Selections Since 2017
The Chief Minister was informed that between 2017 and May 2026, the recruitment board has selected 2,21,245 candidates across various categories.
He said Uttar Pradesh Police is one of the largest and most important police forces in the country, and continued modernization will further strengthen law and order in the state.
CM Pushes for Faster, Fair and Tech-Based Recruitment
Yogi Adityanath directed officials to ensure that all recruitment and promotion processes are:
- Transparent and fair
- Technology-driven
- Completed within deadlines
- Focused on merit-based selection
He added that timely recruitment will provide opportunities to deserving youth and further strengthen the state’s law and order system.
