Lucknow: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday inaugurated the Navy Shaurya Vatika in Lucknow, a memorial dedicated to the bravery, service, and technological strength of the Indian Navy. The project has been developed in CG City near Ekana Cricket Stadium Gate No. 5 at a cost of around ₹19 crore.
The highlight of the project is the decommissioned Indian Navy warship INS Gomati, which has been converted into a major tourist and heritage attraction.
INS Gomati to Showcase Naval Heritage and Maritime Strength
The centrepiece of the Shaurya Vatika is the retired guided-missile frigate INS Gomati, which was decommissioned from naval service on May 28, 2022. The warship has now been preserved as part of a military heritage experience for visitors.
Officials said the attraction aims to give citizens, especially students, a close look at India’s naval strength, weapons systems, communication equipment, and operational history.

Developed at ₹19 Crore Cost Near Ekana Stadium
Spread across more than two acres, the Shaurya Vatika has been developed as a modern naval heritage park showcasing:
- Naval warship models
- Defence equipment and weapons
- Communication and operational systems
- Educational displays on maritime security
The project is designed to inspire patriotism and provide educational exposure to India’s maritime defence capabilities.
Rajnath Singh Calls Vatika Symbol of National Pride
Inaugurating the facility, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the Navy Shaurya Vatika represents the bravery and dedication of the Indian Armed Forces. He said Uttar Pradesh has transformed from being associated with law-and-order challenges to becoming a model of development and investment-friendly governance. He also announced plans to include a submarine exhibit in the future.

CM Yogi Adityanath Highlights Security and Development Link
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that strong security is essential for development and praised the armed forces for safeguarding the nation under extreme conditions. He said Uttar Pradesh has now become a place where India’s heritage, tradition, and pride can be seen together. He added that such projects help youth understand the sacrifices of the armed forces and build national pride.
Leaders Emphasize UP’s Historical and Strategic Importance
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak highlighted Lucknow’s legacy of courage, recalling the 1857 freedom struggle and the city’s contribution to India’s military history. Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya suggested showcasing naval exhibitions during major events like the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj to increase public awareness of India’s defence capabilities.
Focus on Youth Awareness and Military Inspiration
Officials said the Shaurya Vatika will serve as an educational and inspirational centre for students and visitors. Schools and colleges will be encouraged to visit the site to learn about India’s naval operations and defence systems. The park is expected to become a major hub of patriotism and military heritage tourism in Lucknow.

Public Access and Heritage Tourism Boost
After the inauguration, the Vatika was opened to the public, with guided tours organized for visitors. Officials confirmed that the site will remain open for public viewing and will function as a permanent centre for naval heritage education in Uttar Pradesh.
