Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday launched the ‘Pradesh Vyapi Vriksharopan Mahayagya-2026’ from Gorakhpur, beginning a massive plantation campaign aimed at planting 35 crore saplings across the state. The initiative is being carried out under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (One Tree in Mother’s Name) to promote environmental conservation and public participation.
CM Yogi Begins Mega Plantation Drive from Gorakhpur
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the statewide plantation campaign by planting a sapling near the Gorakhpur Link Expressway and along the Tal Ring Road near RKBK under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
The launch event was attended by Cabinet Minister Sanjay Nishad and Uttar Pradesh Forest and Environment Minister (Independent Charge) Arun Kumar Saxena.
The state government has prepared a large-scale plan under CM Yogi’s guidance to complete the plantation target with the coordination of different departments.
Uttar Pradesh Targets Record 35 Crore Plantation
The Uttar Pradesh government has set a record target of planting 35 crore saplings across the state during the 2026 plantation campaign.
The Forest Department is coordinating the drive, while 27 government departments are participating to ensure successful implementation.
Gorakhpur district has been given a target of planting 55,28,600 saplings as part of the statewide mission.
‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign Launched Across UP
CM Yogi Adityanath said that tree plantation is deeply connected with Indian culture and traditions.
In a message shared on social media, he said nature conservation is not only an environmental responsibility but also an expression of gratitude towards the Earth, rivers and trees that provide life, food, water and energy.
He described the plantation drive as a collective celebration of gratitude towards nature rather than just a government programme.
CM Yogi Warns Against Climate Change and Global Warming
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed concern over the rising impact of climate change and global warming.
He said excessive cutting of trees and destruction of water resources have disturbed the natural balance, affecting weather patterns and agricultural production.
The Chief Minister emphasised that development and environmental protection must go hand in hand for a sustainable future.
UP Government Highlights Environmental Initiatives
CM Yogi said the Uttar Pradesh government is taking several steps to improve environmental conditions and reduce carbon emissions.
He highlighted that the installation of 16 lakh LED street lights across the state has resulted in savings of around ₹100 crore and helped reduce carbon emissions.
He also mentioned that Ayodhya has been developed as India’s first solar city, reflecting the government’s focus on clean energy and sustainable development.
CM Appeals People to Plant Trees in Memory of Loved Ones
The Chief Minister appealed to citizens to plant trees in memory of their ancestors and loved ones and take responsibility for protecting them.
He also urged people to continue efforts to eliminate single-use plastic and contribute towards environmental protection.
Deputy CM Brijesh Pathak Urges Public Participation
Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak said the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign has been started across Uttar Pradesh with the aim of planting more than 35 crore trees.
He appealed to the people of the state, government departments, BJP workers and social organisations to actively participate in the campaign and help make Uttar Pradesh greener.
CM Yogi Highlights Ujjwala Scheme Benefits
During the event, CM Yogi Adityanath also highlighted the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
He said the scheme has provided LPG connections to around 10 crore families across the country, including nearly 2 crore families in Uttar Pradesh, helping women move away from smoke-based cooking methods.
The Chief Minister said the scheme has improved the health and living conditions of millions of women.
Plantation Drive Aims to Build Greener Uttar Pradesh
The Vriksharopan Mahayagya-2026 is aimed at increasing green cover, combating climate challenges and encouraging citizens to participate in environmental conservation.
Through the campaign, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to create a sustainable environment while ensuring that planted trees are protected for future generations.
