New Delhi: Coal India Limited (CIL), the world’s largest coal-producing company, has announced significant changes in its senior management team, appointing P Madhusudan Rao as Executive Director (Excavation) and Rajanikanta Majhee as Executive Director (Marketing & Logistics). These appointments, effective from July 1 and July 2, 2025 respectively, reflect CIL’s commitment to bolstering leadership to meet evolving operational and market challenges.

Experienced Leadership to Drive Operational Excellence

P Madhusudan Rao, a seasoned professional with a strong engineering background, assumes the role of Executive Director (Excavation) from July 1, 2025. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Andhra University, Rao joined Coal India Limited in 1987. With 29 years of hands-on field experience in Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM) planning, operation, and maintenance, he has contributed extensively to projects under Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) and South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL).

In addition to his technical expertise, Rao has over nine years of corporate experience, including leadership positions such as General Manager Vigilance and Head of the Engineering Division at SECL and CIL headquarters. His deep knowledge of excavation operations and corporate governance will be instrumental in enhancing Coal India’s mining efficiency and safety standards.

Strengthening Market Reach and Logistics Operations

On July 2, 2025, Rajanikanta Majhee will take charge as Executive Director (Marketing & Logistics). Majhee, aged 57, holds an MBA and an LL.B certificate and brings 33 years of extensive experience in marketing and sales within the coal sector. Since joining Coal India Limited in 1992, he has played a pivotal role in expanding market outreach, optimizing sales strategies, and streamlining logistics operations.

Majhee’s appointment is expected to reinforce Coal India’s ability to effectively manage coal distribution networks and improve customer service, thus strengthening the company’s position in a competitive market.

Elevating Senior Management for Strategic Growth

Both Madhusudan Rao and Rajanikanta Majhee have been promoted to the rank of Executive Director, a senior management position just below the Board of Directors. These appointments are aligned with Coal India’s strategy to ensure robust leadership that supports its operational growth and sustainability objectives.

By leveraging the expertise of these two experienced executives, Coal India aims to continue its leadership in the coal industry while driving innovation, efficiency, and market responsiveness.
