New Delhi: The Defence Correspondents Course, comprising 24 journalists, has concluded at Tezpur after completing its three-week programme covering the Indian Navy, Indian Air Force and Indian Army. The course aimed to familiarise participating journalists with the roles, capabilities and operational environments of the three Services.
The programme included a series of briefings, field visits and interactions with military personnel, providing participants with insights into the functioning of the Defence Forces and the responsibilities involved in defence reporting.
The course also aimed to strengthen mutual understanding between the Defence Forces and the media, highlighting their shared commitment to enhancing public awareness while respecting operational sensitivities and national security considerations.
Defence Correspondents Course Covers All Three Services
During the three-week course, the participating journalists completed the Navy, Air Force and Army legs, gaining exposure to the functioning and responsibilities of each Service.
Through interactions with military personnel and visits to relevant locations, the participants developed a better understanding of the operational environments and capabilities of the Defence Forces.
The programme was designed to help journalists develop a more informed perspective on defence-related issues and the complexities involved in reporting on military operations and national security matters.

Valedictory Function Held at Tezpur
The valedictory function marking the conclusion of the Defence Correspondents Course was chaired by Lieutenant General Neeraj Shukla, General Officer Commanding, Gajraj Corps.
Vijay Kumar, Additional Director General (Media & Communication), Ministry of Defence, also attended the event, along with officials from the Directorate of Public Relations.
The concluding event marked the completion of the course and its engagement between the participating journalists and the Defence Forces.
Strengthening Defence Forces-Media Engagement
The Defence Correspondents Course underscored the importance of constructive engagement between the military establishment and the media.
By providing journalists with direct exposure to the three Services, the course sought to improve their understanding of defence operations, capabilities and responsibilities. It also emphasised the importance of responsible reporting that informs the public while maintaining due regard for operational sensitivities and national security.
The programme concluded at Tezpur with 24 journalists completing the three-week course.
