He said the system demonstrates the maturity of India’s indigenous missile design and manufacturing capabilities. He also noted that production has now stabilized, allowing India to meet both domestic and international demand.

According to Singh, Armenia purchased multiple Akash batteries, and exports later expanded to Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Additional orders for Indian armed forces are also being fulfilled.

What Is The Akash Missile System

The Akash Missile System is a short-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system developed by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

It is manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). The system is designed to protect military assets and strategic locations from aerial threats.

What are the Features Of Akash Missile System

  • Can intercept high-speed aerial targets.
  • Effective against fighter aircraft, helicopters, drones, and some cruise missile threats.
  • Operational range of around 25–30 km for current variants.
  • New-generation Akash-NG variant is being developed with a range of around 50 km.
  • Uses advanced radar, command guidance, and tracking systems.

Why Akash Missile System Exports Are Important For India

The export of Akash to three countries is another sign that India is becoming a trusted supplier of advanced defence equipment. Many countries are now looking for reliable and cost-effective alternatives to traditional suppliers, creating opportunities for Indian defence products.

Strengthening “Make In India”

The success of Akash supports India’s “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” and “Make in India” initiatives. It shows that Indian defence technology is not only meeting domestic requirements but is also competitive in international markets.

India’s Defence Export Growth Continues

India’s defence exports have grown significantly in recent years. Official data shows defence exports reached a record level in FY 2025-26, with the government aiming for even higher export figures in the coming years.

Along with Akash, systems such as BrahMos missiles, artillery platforms, radars, and other defence equipment are helping India expand its presence in the global defence market.
