New Delhi: DRDO cyber breach claims have been rejected by the Ministry of Defence, which said reports about a cyberattack on the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) are incorrect and unverified. The ministry clarified that a detailed investigation found no evidence of any active cyberattack, unauthorised network intrusion, or ongoing data theft.

The clarification comes after reports claimed that alleged DRDO data was being offered for sale on the dark web. According to official sources, the investigation found that the material being circulated is outdated, mostly unclassified, and has no relevance to DRDO’s current systems.

DRDO Cyber Breach: What Did The Defence Ministry Say

The Ministry of Defence dismissed reports suggesting that DRDO had suffered a cybersecurity breach. Officials said a detailed investigation was carried out by the concerned agencies under the Ministry of Defence. The probe found no signs of an active cyberattack, unauthorised access to DRDO networks, or any ongoing data exfiltration.

No Evidence Of Any Active DRDO Cyber Breach

According to the ministry, investigators carefully examined the allegations after reports claimed sensitive DRDO data had appeared on the dark web. The investigation concluded that there is no evidence supporting claims of a successful cyber intrusion into DRDO’s systems.

Most Alleged Leaked Data Is Old And Unclassified

The Defence Ministry said most of the data being circulated is unclassified information that does not contain confidential or sensitive material.

Officials added that some of the documents being shown as new are actually linked to an older data breach that dates back to 2020–2022.

DRDO Cyber Breach: Documents Were Allegedly Modified To Look Recent

The ministry stated that threat actors deliberately altered old documents to make them appear current and confidential. It also said many of these documents have undergone several revisions over the years and no longer reflect DRDO’s present systems, configurations, or operations.

DRDO Cyber Breach: Data Being Sold Has No Current Relevance

Officials noted that the same dataset is reportedly being offered for sale by multiple threat actors. The ministry said this indicates that the information being circulated is not fresh and has no current relevance to the Ministry of Defence or DRDO.

Investigation Suggests Financial Motive

The Defence Ministry believes the alleged documents were circulated mainly for financial gain. According to officials, threat actors may have tried to create panic and make outdated information appear authentic in order to attract buyers on dark web marketplaces.

Background Of The DRDO Cyber Breach Claims

The clarification came after reports from a cybersecurity firm claimed that alleged DRDO-related data had been listed for sale on the dark web. Earlier, DRDO had said it was verifying the authenticity of those claims. Following the investigation, the Ministry of Defence has now officially stated that reports of a DRDO cyber breach are incorrect and unverified.
