New Delhi: The India-Israel defence pact claim has been firmly rejected by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which called recent reports on social media and some foreign media outlets “fake news.” The MEA clarified that India has not approached Israel for any defence agreement in response to the newly announced Pakistan-Saudi Arabia-Turkey security arrangement. The clarification comes amid growing online speculation about regional security developments in West Asia and South Asia.

India-Israel Defence Pact: MEA Dismisses Reports as Fake News

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has denied reports claiming that New Delhi sought a defence pact with Israel after Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey signed the “Mecca Joint Defence Agreement.” The claim first appeared in a Turkish media report and later spread widely on social media platforms.

According to the report, unnamed sources alleged that India had started discussions with Israel to create a defence agreement aimed at countering the trilateral security framework. However, India’s MEA Fact Check Unit rejected the report and labelled it as false.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, the Fact Check Unit warned people against misinformation and AI-generated content designed to mislead the public.

India-Israel Defence Pact: What the MEA Said

The MEA Fact Check Unit stated that the report was fake and cautioned users against sharing unverified information. The ministry emphasized that malicious social media posts using artificial intelligence and manipulated content can create confusion and spread misinformation. India has not officially announced or discussed any new defence pact with Israel in response to the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia-Turkey agreement.

What Is the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement

The controversy emerged after Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement. According to statements from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the agreement aims to strengthen military coordination, collective security, and defence cooperation among the three countries. The pact reportedly states that an attack on one member nation would be treated as an attack on all three countries. The agreement also covers broader areas of military and strategic cooperation.

India Monitoring Regional Developments

While rejecting the defence pact claim, India confirmed that it is closely monitoring developments related to the trilateral agreement. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said during a weekly media briefing that New Delhi is carefully following the situation and will continue to assess regional developments. His comments indicate that India remains attentive to changing security dynamics in the region.

Netanyahu Says India-Israel Ties Will Continue to Grow

The fake news controversy surfaced shortly before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke positively about India-Israel relations. Netanyahu shared remarks on social media after a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The two leaders discussed strengthening the India-Israel Strategic Partnership and exchanged views on developments in West Asia. Netanyahu stated that India and Israel would continue to deepen their cooperation and friendship.

India-Israel Defence Pact: Why the Clarification Matters

The MEA’s response highlights the growing challenge of misinformation in international affairs. False reports related to defence and security issues can create confusion, affect public perception, and lead to unnecessary speculation. The government’s clarification aims to ensure that information related to foreign policy and national security comes only from verified and official sources.
