No Political Pressure On Military Planning

Chauhan explained that the government did not impose pressure regarding when the operation should begin. Instead, military commanders were entrusted with making operational decisions based on ground realities, intelligence inputs, and preparedness levels.

Background To Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was launched after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that took place on April 22, 2025. The Indian government responded through a combination of diplomatic, economic, and military measures aimed at sending a strong message against cross-border terrorism.

Series Of High-Level Meetings Held

General Chauhan revealed that several important meetings were conducted between April 23 and April 29. During these discussions, military leaders presented multiple operational options to the government. A final decision on the use of military force was taken after detailed consultations involving top national security officials.

Political Leadership Set Clear Objectives

According to Chauhan, the political leadership made it clear that India would not tolerate cross-border terrorism. The government defined the strategic goals, while military planners were left free to decide how those goals would be achieved. This model ensured both political control and operational flexibility.

Operation Sindoor: Military Asked To Ensure Zero Failure

Chauhan said the Prime Minister’s instructions were precise and focused. The armed forces were directed to avoid failure, whether caused by human error or technical issues. They were also instructed to preserve evidence of actions taken during the operation.

Why The Military Considered It An Ideal Situation

The former CDS described the arrangement as an ideal model for military operations. He noted that armed forces require clear political guidance and freedom in operational execution. According to him, both requirements were fully met during Operation Sindoor.

Coordination Between Political And Military Leadership

Chauhan emphasized that successful military operations depend on close coordination between political leadership and military planners. He said Operation Sindoor demonstrated how strategic objectives, diplomacy, and military action can work together in a synchronized manner.

Operation Sindoor And Its Objectives

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025. The operation targeted terror infrastructure linked to groups operating from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Indian forces conducted precision strikes against identified targets as part of the mission.

Operation Sindoor: Military Action Paused After Pakistan’s Request

Following the operation and subsequent developments, military action was later paused after a formal request from Pakistan. Indian leaders stated that the objectives of the operation had already been achieved through precision strikes and coordinated military action.

General Chauhan’s comments provide rare insight into the decision-making process behind one of India’s most significant military operations in recent years. His remarks highlight the importance of political clarity, military professionalism, and strategic coordination in modern warfare.
