New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that eligible women under the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana will receive monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 from September 1, 2026.
The Chief Minister handed over verification and approval letters to the first batch of beneficiaries at an event held at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi. The initiative aims to strengthen women’s financial security and promote greater economic independence.
According to the Delhi government, more than 9 lakh women have registered for the scheme since the registration portal opened on August 1.
Over 9 Lakh Women Register Under Delhi Lakshmi Yojana
The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana was launched with a focus on women’s empowerment and financial security.
The government said that approximately 9,13,495 women have registered under the scheme, while 6,52,223 applicants have submitted completed applications.
At the event, approval and verification letters were distributed to the first set of beneficiaries.
The Chief Minister said the scheme reflects the government’s commitment to providing financial assistance to women and helping them become more self-reliant.
₹2,500 Monthly Assistance to Begin From September 1
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will receive ₹2,500 every month, with the first payment scheduled to be credited directly into their bank accounts from September 1.
The financial support is intended to help women meet various household and personal requirements, including:
- Children’s care and education
- Medicines and healthcare-related needs
- Essential household expenses
- Livelihood activities
- Small business requirements
- Building savings in their own names
The government expects the assistance to provide women with greater financial stability and confidence in making household and personal decisions.
No Deadline for Registration
CM Rekha Gupta said there is no deadline for registration under the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana.
Women who meet the eligibility requirements can register at their convenience. The government has also clarified that beneficiaries will receive the assistance for the month in which they register, subject to completion of the required formalities and eligibility verification.
A correction facility will also soon be made available on the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana portal to allow applicants to correct or complete missing information in their applications.
Beneficiaries Can Choose How to Receive Financial Assistance
The Delhi government has finalised different options for disbursing the monthly assistance.
Eligible women can choose from the following options:
- Receive ₹1,000 through a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and invest the remaining ₹1,500 in a fixed or recurring deposit.
- Invest the entire ₹2,500 in a fixed or recurring deposit.
The arrangement is aimed not only at providing immediate financial assistance but also at encouraging beneficiaries to build savings.
Who Is Eligible for Delhi Lakshmi Yojana?
The scheme provides monthly financial assistance to eligible women between 21 and 60 years of age, subject to the prescribed conditions.
Certain households have been excluded from the scheme. These include:
- Households with more than three children.
- Households with annual electricity consumption exceeding 2,400 units.
Applicants must also complete the required registration and verification process to receive the benefit.
Delhi Government Allocates ₹5,100 Crore for Scheme
The Delhi government has allocated ₹5,100 crore for the implementation of the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana.
The scheme was earlier known as the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana and was approved by the Delhi Cabinet in March 2025 with the same budget allocation.
Registrations for the scheme officially opened on August 1, 2026, as part of the Delhi government’s broader focus on Nari Sashaktikaran.
CM Rekha Gupta Says Women’s Empowerment Is Key to Progress
Addressing the event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said empowering women is essential for the country’s overall progress.
She described women as a key force in strengthening families and society and said that women’s welfare remains a major focus of Delhi government’s schemes and programmes.
The Chief Minister also said the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana represents the government’s commitment to translating its promise of financial support for women into concrete action.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra and Delhi Cabinet ministers were also present at the event.
