New Delhi: The government of Delhi has approved a major redevelopment plan for the 137-acre Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) campus, aiming to transform it into a world-class integrated healthcare and medical education hub.

The decision, announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is expected to modernize the capital’s healthcare infrastructure and significantly improve services for both patients and medical students.

Massive 137-Acre Healthcare and Education Ecosystem

The redevelopment covers a vast integrated campus that includes:

  • Maulana Azad Medical College
  • Lok Nayak Hospital
  • GB Pant Hospital
  • Guru Nanak Eye Centre
  • Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS)

Officials said the entire complex functions as a connected healthcare and education system, making its planned redevelopment essential for long-term efficiency and modernization.

Three-Phase Master Plan for Modern Healthcare Infrastructure

The redevelopment will be executed in three structured phases:

Phase 1: 30-Year Master Plan

A comprehensive master plan will be developed, aligned with Delhi Development Authority (DDA) norms and other regulatory guidelines. It will focus on future needs over the next 30 years.

Phase 2: Structural and Technical Audit

All existing buildings will undergo detailed structural and technical assessment. Based on this, modern architectural designs and redevelopment proposals will be prepared.

Phase 3: Tender and Execution Support

Complete tender documentation will be prepared along with technical assistance to ensure timely execution of the redevelopment project.

World-Class Facilities Planned for Patients and Students

The project includes the development of advanced infrastructure such as:

  • Modern hospital and academic buildings
  • Multi-storey residential complexes
  • Student hostels and nursing facilities
  • Fire safety systems and security infrastructure
  • Cafeterias and parking facilities
  • Multi-level parking structures
  • Improved internal roads and connectivity systems

Officials said the aim is to create a fully integrated, efficient, and patient-friendly campus.

Focus on Digital Planning and Advanced Engineering

The consultancy will conduct digital ground surveys, prepare detailed engineering drawings, technical documentation, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR). This will ensure that the redevelopment follows global standards of planning and execution.

A Future-Ready Integrated Healthcare Hub

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the MAMC campus is one of the most important pillars of Delhi’s healthcare system, where medical education and patient care operate together.

She emphasized that the goal is to transform it into a modern, integrated healthcare and education hub that meets future demands and improves service delivery.

Improved Healthcare Delivery and Medical Education

The redevelopment is not limited to infrastructure upgrades. It also aims to:

  • Improve patient care facilities
  • Enhance efficiency of healthcare services
  • Provide world-class medical education environment
  • Strengthen capacity for future healthcare demands

Long-Term Vision for Delhi’s Healthcare System

The government highlighted that the project will ensure compliance with all statutory norms while creating a model campus that can serve Delhi’s growing population for decades.

This initiative reflects a broader push to modernize healthcare infrastructure and make medical services more accessible, efficient, and citizen-centric across Delhi.
