New Delhi: The government of Delhi has approved a major redevelopment plan for the 137-acre Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) campus, aiming to transform it into a world-class integrated healthcare and medical education hub.
The decision, announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is expected to modernize the capital’s healthcare infrastructure and significantly improve services for both patients and medical students.
Massive 137-Acre Healthcare and Education Ecosystem
The redevelopment covers a vast integrated campus that includes:
- Maulana Azad Medical College
- Lok Nayak Hospital
- GB Pant Hospital
- Guru Nanak Eye Centre
- Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS)
Officials said the entire complex functions as a connected healthcare and education system, making its planned redevelopment essential for long-term efficiency and modernization.
Three-Phase Master Plan for Modern Healthcare Infrastructure
The redevelopment will be executed in three structured phases:
Phase 1: 30-Year Master Plan
A comprehensive master plan will be developed, aligned with Delhi Development Authority (DDA) norms and other regulatory guidelines. It will focus on future needs over the next 30 years.
Phase 2: Structural and Technical Audit
All existing buildings will undergo detailed structural and technical assessment. Based on this, modern architectural designs and redevelopment proposals will be prepared.
Phase 3: Tender and Execution Support
Complete tender documentation will be prepared along with technical assistance to ensure timely execution of the redevelopment project.
World-Class Facilities Planned for Patients and Students
The project includes the development of advanced infrastructure such as:
- Modern hospital and academic buildings
- Multi-storey residential complexes
- Student hostels and nursing facilities
- Fire safety systems and security infrastructure
- Cafeterias and parking facilities
- Multi-level parking structures
- Improved internal roads and connectivity systems
Officials said the aim is to create a fully integrated, efficient, and patient-friendly campus.
Focus on Digital Planning and Advanced Engineering
The consultancy will conduct digital ground surveys, prepare detailed engineering drawings, technical documentation, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR). This will ensure that the redevelopment follows global standards of planning and execution.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the MAMC campus is one of the most important pillars of Delhi’s healthcare system, where medical education and patient care operate together.
She emphasized that the goal is to transform it into a modern, integrated healthcare and education hub that meets future demands and improves service delivery.
