New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta conducted a surprise inspection of Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital to review the quality of healthcare services and patient facilities. The visit comes amid rising pressure on hospitals during the summer season.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister interacted with patients and their families to understand their experiences, while also taking direct feedback from doctors, hospital staff, and administrators.
Focus on Modern and Citizen-Centric Healthcare System
The Chief Minister instructed hospital authorities to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure a more modern, fast, sensitive, and citizen-focused system.
She emphasized that every citizen should receive:
- Timely medical treatment
- Access to modern healthcare facilities
- Clean and hygienic surroundings
- Respectful and dignified care
Officials said the inspection was part of the government’s effort to improve public healthcare services under increasing seasonal demand.
Priority on Summer Preparedness in Hospitals
With rising temperatures increasing patient load, the Chief Minister directed special attention to essential services such as:
- Availability of medicines
- Drinking water supply
- Cleanliness and sanitation
- Patient comfort facilities
The government aims to ensure hospitals remain fully equipped and responsive during peak summer months.
Strengthening Flood Control and Water Management
Alongside healthcare reforms, the Delhi government is also focusing on flood prevention and water management.
According to PTI reports, a desilting operation is planned near the ITO Barrage on the Yamuna River to improve water flow and reduce flood risks.
Officials noted that in 2023, record water levels in the Yamuna led to flooding in several areas. Heavy silt accumulation had previously disrupted the functioning of barrage gates, worsening the situation.
This year, the government has instructed early desilting and preparedness in sensitive zones to avoid similar crises.
Water ATMs and Clean Drinking Water Initiative
The Chief Minister also inaugurated water ATMs in the Shalimar Bagh area. These units are equipped with advanced RO systems and can supply around 2,000 litres of purified water per hour.
Residents have been provided smart cards to access clean drinking water easily, making the system more efficient and user-friendly.
Inspection of Key Infrastructure Projects
During her visit, the Chief Minister also reviewed:
- Cleaning work of the Munak Canal
- Construction progress of Chhath Ghats
Officials were instructed to complete all pending work within fixed deadlines to ensure timely public use.
Women Empowerment Through Smart Mobility
The Delhi government is also expanding its women-centric welfare initiatives. Under the ‘Pink Saheli Smart Card’ scheme, over 5.3 lakh cards have already been issued.
The scheme provides free bus travel for women and transgender individuals and is integrated under the broader ‘One Nation, One Card’ framework, allowing seamless use across public transport services.
This initiative aims to improve mobility while reducing financial burden on families.
Holistic Governance Approach for Public Welfare
The inspection of Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital, along with initiatives in healthcare, water management, transport, and urban infrastructure, reflects the government’s broader governance strategy.
Authorities say the focus remains on delivering timely, efficient, and people-centric services across Delhi, especially in critical sectors that directly impact daily life.
