New Delhi: Delhi is set to emerge as a major hub for Artificial Intelligence with the government announcing the establishment of two Centres of Excellence (CoEs). The initiative aims to strengthen research, promote startups, and create large-scale employment opportunities while accelerating digital transformation in governance.

Two AI Centres to Drive Innovation and Research

The upcoming Centres of Excellence will serve as innovation hubs, focusing on cutting-edge AI research and real-world applications. The project will be implemented under the India AI Mission of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Leading institutions such as Netaji Subhas University of Technology and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University will play a key role in executing the project, ensuring strong academic and technical backing.

Focus on Startups and Job Creation

The initiative places strong emphasis on nurturing startups and generating employment. Key targets include:

  • Support for 90–100 AI-based startups over the next four years
  • Training of more than 7,000 youth in advanced technologies
  • Creation of over 1,000 job opportunities

Each centre will receive funding of approximately ₹20 crore, following a 40:40:20 model involving central government, Delhi government, and industry or academic partners.

From Innovation to Real-World Impact

The Centres of Excellence will go beyond research by helping startups convert ideas into viable businesses. They will provide:

  • Mentorship and technical guidance
  • Access to advanced tools and infrastructure
  • Industry collaboration opportunities

The initiative also aims to integrate AI into public services, making them faster, more transparent, and efficient for citizens.

Skill Development and Future-Ready Workforce

A major component of the plan is skill development. Structured training and certification programs will equip young professionals with AI expertise, preparing them for emerging career opportunities in the tech sector.

Government’s Vision for AI-Led Growth

IT Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh stated that the initiative represents a significant step toward the future. He emphasized that these centres will not only promote research and startups but also improve everyday life through technology-driven governance.

Delhi’s Push to Become an AI Hub

With this initiative, Delhi aims to position itself as a leading AI ecosystem in India. By combining innovation, entrepreneurship, and governance reforms, the city is taking a strategic step toward becoming a model for digital transformation and technology-driven growth.
