Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a major step to curb rising air pollution in the national capital. She declared that only vehicles with a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate will be allowed to receive fuel at petrol pumps across Delhi.
Vehicles without a valid PUC certificate will no longer be eligible for petrol, diesel, CNG, or LPG, marking one of the strictest enforcement actions against vehicular emissions in the city.
Fuel Denied to Vehicles Without Valid PUC Certificate
Under the new directive:
- Only vehicles with a valid PUC certificate will get fuel
- Petrol, diesel, CNG, and LPG will be denied to non-compliant vehicles
- All fuel station operators and agencies have been formally instructed to enforce the rule strictly
- Any negligence or violation in implementation will not be tolerated
The Chief Minister emphasized that this step is aimed at ensuring strict compliance and reducing pollution caused by unfit vehicles.
Strong Action to Combat Air Pollution in Delhi
Rekha Gupta stated that tackling air pollution requires firm and effective action on the ground. She highlighted that the decision has been taken in view of the severe pollution levels affecting Delhi and the urgent need for corrective measures.
She said the government is fully committed to:
- Reducing air pollution in the capital
- Implementing strict environmental compliance measures
- Ensuring better air quality for citizens
Government Directives Issued to Fuel Stations
The Delhi government has already issued detailed instructions to:
- Petrol pump operators
- Fuel distribution agencies
They have been directed to strictly verify PUC certificates before providing fuel. The Chief Minister warned that any lapse in enforcement will be taken seriously.
Government Reaffirms Commitment to Clean Air
In her statement shared on social media platform X, the Chief Minister reiterated that her administration is working with full commitment and determination to make Delhi pollution-free.
She said the government is continuously implementing strong policies in the public interest, with a focus on long-term environmental improvement and sustainable urban living.
Focus on Strict Enforcement and Public Compliance
The new policy is expected to significantly increase compliance with emission norms among vehicle owners. Authorities believe that linking fuel access to PUC certification will encourage regular vehicle pollution checks and help reduce harmful emissions across Delhi.
The government has described the move as a necessary step to address the worsening air quality crisis in the city.
