Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has inaugurated modern Water ATMs in Shalimar Bagh and Pitampura assembly constituencies, marking a major step toward improving access to safe drinking water across the capital. The initiative aims to provide high-quality, affordable, and easily accessible potable water to residents, especially in areas facing supply challenges.
During the event, the Chief Minister also distributed Water ATM cards to citizens, enabling them to conveniently collect purified water.
5-Stage RO Technology Ensures Safe Drinking Water
The newly installed Water ATMs are equipped with advanced 5-stage Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology, ensuring high-quality purification of drinking water.
Key features include:
- Capacity of 2,000 litres of purified water per hour per unit
- Multi-stage filtration for safe drinking standards
- Continuous supply for local communities
- Easy access through Water ATM cards
These systems are expected to significantly improve water availability in densely populated and water-stressed urban areas.

Major Step Toward Strengthening Urban Water Infrastructure

She described the initiative as a foundational step toward building a “developed Delhi” with improved basic infrastructure.
Focus on Affordable and Accessible Drinking Water
Under the scheme, residents—especially in slum and low-income areas—will receive Water ATM cards allowing them to collect up to 20 litres of clean water daily free of cost or at minimal expense, depending on the system.
The Chief Minister stated that this initiative is designed to reduce dependency on irregular water supply systems and provide a reliable alternative for citizens.
Expansion Planned Across Water-Scarce Areas
Rekha Gupta said the government plans to expand Water ATMs across other parts of the city where water scarcity remains a persistent issue.
She added that the project will be scaled up to ensure wider coverage and long-term sustainability in urban water distribution.
Public Response and Institutional Participation
The inauguration ceremony saw participation from officials of Indian Oil, local representatives, and several dignitaries. The initiative received a positive response from residents, who welcomed the move as a practical solution to drinking water challenges.
Step Toward Cleaner and Smarter Water Access
The introduction of Water ATMs in Delhi reflects a growing focus on technology-driven public utilities. With high-capacity RO systems and card-based access, the initiative is expected to improve transparency, accessibility, and quality in urban water supply services.
The Water ATM project is part of Delhi’s broader effort to modernize urban infrastructure and ensure equitable access to essential services. It combines advanced purification technology with digital access systems to deliver safe drinking water efficiently across the city.
