New Delhi: In a major step towards reducing air pollution and modernizing public transport, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday flagged off 200 new electric buses in the capital. The initiative is aimed at strengthening the city’s public transport system while promoting clean and sustainable mobility.
The new buses were launched from the DTC East Vinod Nagar Depot and will operate on multiple routes across Delhi to provide commuters with an eco-friendly and comfortable travel option.
Delhi’s EV Policy Sets Example for Other States: CM
Speaking at the launch event, CM Rekha Gupta said that Delhi’s electric vehicle (EV) policy is emerging as a model for other states in India. She also urged private schools to adopt electric buses to support clean transportation in the capital.
She emphasized that the government is working continuously to improve public transport and reduce dependency on polluting vehicles.

New Inter-State Electric Bus Service Between Delhi and Rohtak
On the occasion, the Delhi government also launched a new inter-state electric bus service between Delhi and Rohtak. This is expected to improve regional connectivity while maintaining a focus on environmentally friendly transport solutions.
Officials said the initiative will make inter-city travel more efficient, affordable, and sustainable.
New Bus Terminal and Administrative Infrastructure Inaugurated
Along with the bus launch, the Chief Minister inaugurated a new bus terminal at Madanpur Khadar and a modern administrative building at the East Vinod Nagar depot.
These infrastructure projects are expected to strengthen Delhi’s public transport network and improve operational efficiency.
Focus on Battery Disposal and EV Sustainability
CM Rekha Gupta also announced the establishment of a battery disposal plant in Holambi Kalan. The facility will be dedicated to the safe and scientific disposal of electric vehicle batteries, addressing a key environmental concern associated with EV adoption.
She said this step will further strengthen Delhi’s clean mobility ecosystem.

Passenger Safety and Driver Health Prioritized
The Chief Minister highlighted that the government is also focusing on the safety and health of bus drivers and conductors. She said that ensuring good working conditions for transport staff is essential for maintaining a reliable public transport system.
Delhi Targets 7000 Electric Buses by 2026
According to the government’s long-term plan, Delhi already has more than 4,500 electric buses in operation. The target is to increase this number to 7,000 by the end of 2026.
Officials said this expansion will significantly reduce air pollution and provide better connectivity to commuters across the city.
Mission to Transform Public Transport into Fully Electric System
CM Rekha Gupta stated that the Delhi government is working in mission mode to convert the entire public transport system into electric mobility. She added that the EV policy also offers attractive subsidies to encourage citizens to adopt electric vehicles.
The event was attended by Cabinet Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh and other dignitaries.

The launch of 200 electric buses marks another milestone in Delhi’s transition towards a pollution-free and sustainable transport system. The government reiterated its commitment to making the capital cleaner, greener, and more commuter-friendly through continuous investment in electric mobility infrastructure.
