Gandhinagar: Gujarat is positioning Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) as India’s dedicated semiconductor and AI hub, with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel saying the region is now equipped to become a global centre for advanced technology.
Speaking at the Gujarat SemiConnect Conference, Patel highlighted Gujarat’s policy stability, transparency and ease of doing business as key factors behind its growing semiconductor ecosystem.
Dholera to Build Semiconductor Ecosystem
The state is developing an end-to-end technology ecosystem linking chip manufacturing in Dholera and Sanand with design, finance and software capabilities in GIFT City.
Dholera offers high-speed connectivity, modern logistics and plug-and-play infrastructure aimed at attracting large semiconductor and data-centre investments. This includes Tata Electronics’ planned $11 billion chip manufacturing facility.
Gujarat is also seeking technology companies such as Google, Micron and Perplexity AI to develop AI applications and software around the state’s growing digital infrastructure.

More Than 2 Lakh Jobs Expected
The expanding semiconductor and manufacturing ecosystem is projected to generate over 2 lakh high-tech jobs for Gujarat’s youth.
To prepare the required workforce, a state-of-the-art Nanofabrication Lab is being established at IIT Gandhinagar under Project Samarth. The facility will train engineers and technical professionals for the growing semiconductor sector.
With a projected global shortage of around 2 million semiconductor specialists, Gujarat is focusing on specialised talent alongside industrial investment.
AI and Data Centres Get Major Push
Dholera’s surplus power, green-energy potential and planned infrastructure are being positioned as advantages for large AI data centres.
The state aims to combine semiconductor manufacturing with AI, deep-tech and digital governance capabilities, creating a broader technology ecosystem rather than focusing only on chip production.
Patel said Gujarat is moving from being India’s traditional growth engine towards becoming a technology engine, supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of an Aatmanirbhar India.
If these investments and talent initiatives progress as planned, Dholera could become a major technology and employment centre, strengthening Gujarat’s role in India’s semiconductor and AI ambitions.
