New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a major initiative to strengthen technical and vocational education in the capital by upgrading Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) with modern, industry-aligned training infrastructure. The move aims to enhance youth employability and skill readiness for emerging industrial needs.
Four ITIs to Get High-Tech Skill Labs
Under the new initiative, four ITIs in Delhi will receive state-of-the-art laboratories, while existing facilities will also be modernized to match current industry standards.
The upgraded institutions include:
- ITI Jahangirpuri
- ITI Jail Road (Hari Nagar)
- ITI Arab Ki Sarai (Nizamuddin)
- HJB ITI Mayur Vihar (Kichripur)

ITI Jahangirpuri to Get Power Electronics Lab
A Power Electronics Lab will be set up at ITI Jahangirpuri focusing on:
- Industrial automation and control systems
- Renewable energy technologies
- PLC, VFD, motor control and transformer training systems
- Solar PV and smart energy monitoring systems
The lab will provide hands-on training to around 480 students across multiple trades including electricians, electronics mechanics, solar technicians, fitters, and motor vehicle mechanics. It aims to transform the institute into a Center of Excellence in power engineering.
ITI Jail Road to Get Advanced Welding Training Facility
ITI Jail Road (Hari Nagar) will see a major upgrade of its welding lab, featuring:
- MIG/TIG welding systems
- Arc welding and gas cutting tools
- Plasma cutting technology
- Welding simulators and fabrication workstations
This modernisation will enhance practical training in industrial welding and fabrication, benefiting around 200 students and improving apprenticeship and job opportunities.
ARAB KI SARAI ITI to Introduce VR-Based Automotive Training
At ITI Arab Ki Sarai (Nizamuddin), automotive training will be upgraded with Virtual Reality (VR) simulation systems.
Key features include:
- VR-based driving, welding and painting training
- Advanced modules for ABS and airbag systems
- Training in modern vehicle diagnostics and repair
The upgrade will benefit around 208 students, making training safer, more interactive, and industry-relevant.
EV Lab at Mayur Vihar ITI for Future Mobility Skills
HJB ITI Mayur Vihar will establish a dedicated Electric Vehicle (EV) Lab, focusing on green mobility technologies.
Training will include:
- Battery Management Systems (BMS)
- EV charging systems
- Electric motors and diagnostics
- Power electronics and repair techniques
This facility will support around 184 students, preparing them for the rapidly growing EV industry.
Boost to Skill India Vision and Employment Opportunities
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the initiative aligns with the Skill India mission and the vision of a technologically empowered youth workforce. She added that the upgraded ITIs will:
- Improve industry-ready skills
- Increase employment and self-employment opportunities
- Provide real-world industrial exposure
- Strengthen Delhi’s technical education ecosystem
Modern ITIs to Drive Industry-Oriented Training
Delhi’s ITIs have long been key centers for vocational training in electrical, mechanical, automotive, and electronics trades. The new upgrades aim to transform them into modern centers of excellence, aligned with emerging technologies and industrial demands.
