New Delhi: To strengthen public transport and reduce traffic congestion in the capital, the Delhi government has accelerated work on expanding the Delhi Metro network. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently reviewed ongoing metro projects and announced that three major corridors are targeted for completion by the end of 2026.
Focus on Three Key Metro Corridors
The upcoming corridors expected to be completed this year include:
- Krishna Park Extension to Deepali Chowk
- Majlis Park to R.K. Ashram
- Tughlakabad to Aerocity
Officials said these routes will significantly improve cross-city connectivity and reduce travel time for daily commuters.
Delhi Metro Network Already Among Largest in the World
During the review meeting, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) presented its progress report. Key highlights include:
- 416 km operational metro network
- 303 stations across 12 lines
- 32 interchange stations
- 104.45 km of new network under construction
- 81 new stations being developed

- Inderlok to Indraprastha

Phase-5 (A) Expansion Plan

- Aerocity to IGI Airport Terminal-1
- Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj
Modernisation of Old Metro Coaches
To improve passenger experience, the government is upgrading older Blue Line trains with modern facilities such as:
- Digital route maps
- LCD display screens
- Mobile and laptop charging ports
- CCTV surveillance systems
- Advanced fire safety mechanisms
Officials said these upgrades aim to make travel safer, smarter, and more comfortable.
