Delhi Police Set for Major Reshuffle, Several IPS Transfers on the Card

This uncertainty has led to a situation where instructions from current headquarters officers are not being taken seriously by officers at the lower levels
Indian Masterminds Stories

Delhi Police is currently in a state of transition, with officers across all levels waiting for a major reshuffle. The Ministry of Home Affairs is expected to release an updated list soon, and speculation is rife that changes will be made from the top-level officers to those in district-level positions. This uncertainty has led to a situation where instructions from current headquarters officers are not being taken seriously by officers at the lower levels.

One key development involves the transfer of Mr. Vijay Kumar, a 1997-batch IPS officer, from Jammu and Kashmir to Delhi. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the order on January 2, and Mr. Kumar was relieved from his duties in Jammu and Kashmir on January 30. However, he has not yet joined his new post in Delhi, where he is expected to be appointed as Special Commissioner. Given his crucial role in anti-militancy operations in Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Kumar is likely to be given the responsibility of Special CP (Crime) or Special CP (Special Cell). This move could coincide with the planned retirement of Special CP (Special Cell) Mr. Vivek Gogia (1991-batch IPS officer) in July. There is also speculation about the possible transfer of Special CP (Crime) Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastava (1995-batch IPS officer) to a new role in law and order.

The reshuffle will not be limited to senior officers. Some Special CPs are expected to either be transferred out of Delhi or sent on deputation. Additionally, some Joint CPs and Additional CPs posted in various ranges and units will also be moved. Mr. Sagar Singh Kalsi (2010-batch IPS officer), the Additional CP of Eastern Range, has already been deputed to the Petroleum Ministry and relieved from Delhi Police duties. He is currently being handled by Joint CP Mr. Parmaditya (2005-batch IPS officer), in the Central Range. Moreover, changes are anticipated in the positions of DCPs and Additional DCPs across certain districts and units.
