New Delhi: 1997 batch senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of AGMUT cadre, Mr Vijay Kumar has been appointed as the Special Commissioner of Police, Armed Police, Delhi, as of Friday. The announcement comes after his transfer from Jammu & Kashmir to the national capital, marking a significant shift in his illustrious career.

Kumar, who had been serving as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Law & Order in Jammu & Kashmir, was moved to the Delhi segment of the AGMUT cadre by the Ministry of Home Affairs. His transfer orders were issued on January 9, and he was officially relieved of his duties by the Jammu & Kashmir government on January 30 to allow for the transition to his new role in Delhi.

Known for his exceptional leadership and dedication, Kumar is a decorated officer, having earned multiple gallantry medals throughout his career. His tenure in Jammu & Kashmir was particularly marked by his strategic focus on counter-terrorism operations. As the Inspector General (IG) and ADGP in Kashmir, he played a key role in managing security operations across some of the region’s most volatile areas, including Pulwama, Awantipora, Kulgam, and Anantnag.

With his new appointment in Delhi, Kumar is set to oversee the Armed Police Division, bringing his wealth of experience in conflict management and counter-terrorism to the capital’s security apparatus. His leadership is expected to further strengthen Delhi’s law enforcement, particularly in handling complex and high-risk situations.

Vijay Kumar’s track record as a fearless and competent officer has earned him the trust of his colleagues and superiors alike, and his appointment to this high-profile position is seen as a testament to his skills and contributions to national security.
