New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) has become the first metro organisation in India to receive ISO 55001:2024 certification for its Asset Management System. The certification covers the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of Mumbai Metro Line-3, also known as the Aqua Line.
The certification marks a significant step in DMRC’s approach to asset management, moving from conventional maintenance practices towards a more strategic, risk-based and lifecycle-focused system.
ISO 55001:2024 Certification for Mumbai Metro Line-3
ISO 55001:2024 is the latest international standard for asset management systems. It provides a structured framework for managing physical assets throughout their entire lifecycle.
This includes:
- Planning and procurement
- Operation and maintenance
- Upgrades and improvements
- Lifecycle risk management
- Eventual replacement of assets
The standard helps organisations balance performance, risk and cost, while improving asset reliability and long-term value.
DMRC Adopts Strategic and Lifecycle-Based Asset Management
With this certification, DMRC has strengthened its approach beyond simply repairing assets when required.
The organisation now focuses on actively managing asset performance, lifecycle costs, risks and their contribution to broader operational objectives.
The system links asset management goals with key priorities such as safety, operational performance, reliability and sustainability.
Key Measures Taken by DMRC
DMRC achieved the certification in a short period after strengthening its overall asset management framework.
Key measures included:

These mechanisms are designed to ensure that the asset management system remains effective and continuously improves.
DMRC’s O&M Role in Mumbai Metro Line-3

- Rolling stock and trains
- Traction power systems
- Signalling systems
- Telecommunications
- Metro stations

By adopting a structured and scientific approach to asset management, DMRC aims to improve the long-term performance and value of critical metro infrastructure.
The achievement also establishes a new benchmark for asset management practices in India’s growing urban rail sector.
DMRC Expands World-Class Expertise Beyond Delhi-NCR
The certification demonstrates DMRC’s ability to apply its technical and operational expertise beyond the Delhi-NCR region.
Its role in managing the O&M of Mumbai Metro Line-3, combined with the ISO 55001:2024 certification, highlights the organisation’s growing capabilities in implementing international standards for complex urban rail infrastructure.
