Key Areas of Collaboration
- Autonomous Navigation: The collaboration will focus on autonomous platforms like ground vehicles, robots, drones, and other vehicles, designed to navigate and collect data without human intervention.
- Last-Mile Connectivity: The project will emphasize enhancing last-mile mobility solutions in Tier II and Tier III cities, addressing the gap in public transportation options in these regions.
- Innovative Technologies: TiHAN, which is part of the Department of Science & Technology (DST)’s National Mission on Cyber Physical Systems, will contribute cutting-edge Autonomous Navigation and Data Acquisition Systems to power the project. These technologies enable a wide range of autonomous vehicles to navigate and function without manual control, enhancing the scope and reach of public transit.
About TiHAN and IIT Hyderabad’s Role
TiHAN is a dedicated technology innovation hub at IIT Hyderabad, established by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) to focus on autonomous systems. The hub is renowned for developing and testing Autonomous Navigation solutions for multiple platforms, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), drones, and ground-based vehicles. TiHAN’s expertise will play a critical role in transforming urban mobility by integrating these technologies into real-world public transportation systems.
The collaboration with DMRC is part of TiHAN’s mission to drive technological innovations that can improve transportation infrastructure across the country.
Formal Signing of the MoU
The MoU was officially signed by Shobhan Chaudhuri, Advisor/R&D from DMRC, and Dr. Santosh Reddy, Hub Executive Officer from TiHAN, in the presence of key officials from both organizations. Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, along with Mr. Manuj Singhal, Director of Infrastructure, were also present at the event, further underscoring the significance of the collaboration.
The partnership will combine DMRC’s deep domain knowledge in metro rail operations with TiHAN’s cutting-edge technology in autonomous navigation systems, creating a synergy aimed at revolutionizing public transport.
