New Delhi: The Government of India has issued a series of important notifications relating to senior-level bureaucratic appointments, deputation extensions, and international assignments. The orders, issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and approved in part by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), involve key officers from the Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS), and senior technical leadership in water resource management.
Chetan PS Rao Appointed to UN Assignment in New York
In a significant development, Chetan PS Rao (IRS-IT: 2002) has been appointed as Principal Economic Affairs Officer (D-I) in New York, USA, under a United Nations assignment.
According to a DoPT order issued on May 4, 2026, Rao will serve in the long-term international posting for a period of 364 days from the date of assumption of charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
To facilitate this overseas assignment, his current central deputation post as Member (Finance), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has been curtailed.
Notably, Rao was appointed to the DDA in September 2025 for a five-year tenure, which has now been shortened due to this international responsibility.

Sunil Bhagwat Chaudhari Gets One-Year Extension in DEA
The central deputation tenure of Sunil Bhagwat Chaudhari (ICAS: 2008) as Director in the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) has been extended by one year.
As per a DoPT order issued on May 6, 2026, the ACC has approved the extension under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of one year beyond June 6, 2026, extending up to June 4, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
This marks his second consecutive one-year extension. Earlier in June 2025, he received a similar extension after completing his five-year central deputation tenure.
Chaudhari has been serving in the Department of Economic Affairs continuously since June 2020.
Former CWC Chairman Appointed Assessor in KWDT
In another key appointment, former Chairman of the Central Water Commission (CWC), Dr Mukesh Kumar Sinha, has been appointed as Assessor in the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT).
The appointment was approved by the ACC on May 6, 2026.
As Assessor, Dr Sinha will function as a technical expert assisting the tribunal in matters related to hydrology, engineering, irrigation planning, river flow analysis, and inter-state water-sharing disputes. His role will include providing expert inputs on water availability, project feasibility, and technical evaluation of competing state claims.
Dr Sinha is a veteran water resources expert and has previously headed the Central Water Commission, the apex technical organisation under the Government of India dealing with water management and planning.
