New Delhi: The military combat parachute system (MCPS) has achieved a major milestone after the Defence research and development organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a high-altitude trial in Ladakh. The indigenous system was tested at the Nyoma-Mudh Drop Zone from an altitude of 22,000 feet in extreme weather conditions of minus 15 degrees Celsius. The successful test highlights India’s growing self-reliance in advanced defence technologies and strengthens the operational capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces.

DRDO carried out the test at the Nyoma-Mudh Drop Zone in eastern Ladakh, one of the highest military drop zones in the world. The trial involved test jumpers executing a combat jump from 22,000 feet above mean sea level under extremely challenging environmental conditions. Temperatures during the mission dropped to nearly minus 15 degrees Celsius.

The parachute was deployed at approximately 20,000 feet. The test team landed safely at an altitude of around 13,700 feet, demonstrating the reliability and operational effectiveness of the system in extreme terrain and weather conditions.
