Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the youth of eastern Uttar Pradesh never lacked talent or hard work, but the earlier system failed to provide them with adequate opportunities and platforms to realise their potential.
Addressing a programme titled “Changing Eastern Uttar Pradesh” at the Baba Gambhir Nath Auditorium in Gorakhpur, the Chief Minister highlighted the region’s economic transformation and said its large young population was driving growth across sectors.
Eastern UP Emerging as Economic Growth Hub
CM Yogi Adityanath said eastern Uttar Pradesh has undergone significant changes over the past nine years and is now emerging as a major economic region.
He said the region is witnessing growth in several key areas, including:
- Healthcare
- Education
- Investment
- Employment
- Entrepreneurship
According to Adityanath, the perception of Purvanchal has also changed significantly. He contrasted its earlier image, which he described as being associated with “mafia and mosquitoes,” with its emerging identity as a centre for development and economic activity.

Youth Deserve Opportunities, Says CM Yogi
The Chief Minister said the region’s youth had always possessed talent and the willingness to work hard.
He said the major deficiency in the past was the lack of a system capable of utilising their abilities and providing them with suitable platforms.
Adityanath said the government is now working to create more opportunities for young people through education, skill development, employment and entrepreneurship.
Gorakhpur Investments Create 50,000 Jobs
Highlighting the economic progress of Gorakhpur, Adityanath said investments made in the city over the past nine years have generated employment opportunities for around 50,000 young people.
He also noted that nearly 56-60% of Uttar Pradesh’s population is young, making the state home to one of the largest youth populations in the country.
The Chief Minister said this demographic strength can become a major driver of economic growth when supported by education, skills and employment opportunities.
Government Focuses on Education and Skill Development
CM Yogi said the government is working at multiple levels to improve opportunities for young people.
The focus areas include:
- Quality education
- Competitive examination coaching
- Modern technical skills
- Employment opportunities
- Self-employment and entrepreneurship
He said various government initiatives are helping accelerate economic activity and create new opportunities for the state’s youth.
PM Internship and Youth Schemes Supporting Employment
Adityanath highlighted initiatives such as the PM Internship Scheme, CM Internship Scheme and Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Yojana.
According to the Chief Minister, these programmes have contributed to economic growth while creating avenues for young people to gain experience, develop skills and pursue employment or entrepreneurship.
Eastern UP Strengthens Higher Education Infrastructure
The Chief Minister also highlighted improvements in the region’s education infrastructure.
He said five new universities have been established in eastern Uttar Pradesh over the past nine years, strengthening access to higher education and creating additional opportunities for students.
Adityanath said improvements in education, skills and employment opportunities are helping transform eastern Uttar Pradesh into a rapidly developing economic region.
UP Moving Towards $1 Trillion Economy Target
Adityanath said eastern Uttar Pradesh’s per capita income has more than tripled over the past nine years, while the state’s economy has grown threefold during the same period.He expressed confidence that Uttar Pradesh will move towards becoming a USD 1 trillion economy within the next three years, with the state’s young population playing an important role in achieving the target.
