New Delhi: Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, convened its 21st General Managers’ Coordination Meeting at the company’s headquarters, focusing on operational performance, safety, productivity and key organisational priorities.
The meeting brought together ECL’s leadership team, Area General Managers, Heads of Departments and senior officials to review operational progress, assess performance and discuss measures to strengthen efficiency and safety across the organisation.
A key highlight of the meeting was the felicitation of Dr. Satish Jha, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of ECL, by the company’s Functional Directors following his award of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree by the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi.

ECL CMD Dr Satish Jha Felicitated for PhD from IIT (BHU)
During the meeting, ECL’s Functional Directors felicitated Dr. Satish Jha, Chairman and Managing Director of the company, for receiving a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from IIT (BHU), Varanasi.
The recognition marked an important academic achievement for Dr. Jha alongside his professional responsibilities in the coal sector.
His doctoral research focuses on the application of statistical methods and artificial intelligence to investigate the specific fuel consumption of rear-dump trucks operating in large-scale surface mines.
Dr Satish Jha’s Research Focuses on AI in Surface Mining
Dr. Jha’s doctoral research is titled “Statistical and Artificial Intelligence Based Approach on Investigation of Specific Fuel Consumption by the Rear Dump Trucks in Large Scale Surface Mines.”
The research examines the use of statistical techniques and artificial intelligence to study the specific fuel consumption of rear-dump trucks used in large-scale surface mining operations.
The subject is relevant to mining operations, where fuel consumption is an important factor influencing equipment efficiency, operating costs and resource utilisation.
The felicitation recognised Dr. Jha’s academic accomplishment and highlighted the relevance of research and technology in addressing operational challenges in the mining industry.
