New Delhi: At GAIL’s 41st Annual General Meeting for the fiscal year 2024–25, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Mr Sandeep K Gupta welcomed shareholders and stakeholders with a message of confidence, pride, and vision. He announced that GAIL had achieved its highest-ever Profit Before Tax (PBT) and Profit After Tax (PAT) – ₹14,825 crore and ₹11,312 crore respectively – reflecting a 28% growth over the previous fiscal year.
The company also reported a significant increase in Revenue from Operations, climbing to ₹1,37,288 crore. Capital expenditure for the year stood at ₹10,512 crore.
Despite a volatile global energy landscape and geopolitical instability, GAIL demonstrated resilience, underpinned by strong fundamentals, effective governance, and strategic foresight.
Exemplary Governance and Ratings
GAIL continued its streak of robust governance practices with ‘NIL’ comments from C&AG for the 16th consecutive year, a rare achievement in India’s public sector.
International rating agencies Fitch and Moody’s reaffirmed GAIL’s ratings at ‘BBB-’ and ‘Baa3’ with stable outlooks. Domestically, the company maintained ‘AAA’ ratings from ICRA, CARE Ratings, and India Ratings.

Major Infrastructure and Network Expansion
GAIL’s pipeline infrastructure expanded significantly during FY25–
- 277 km of pipeline commissioned
- 717 km underwent lowering works
- Major pipeline projects: Durgapur–Haldia, Dhamra–Haldia, Srikakulam–Angul, Mumbai–Nagpur–Jharsuguda, Krishnagiri–Coimbatore, and Gurdaspur–Jammu
The National Gas Grid remains a central priority with operations spanning over 16,421 km.
Additionally, GAIL received PNGRB approval to double capacity of the Jamnagar–Loni LPG pipeline from 3.25 to 6.5 MMTPA.
Record Volumes in Transmission, Trading, and Petrochemicals
- Natural gas transmission hit a record 127.32 MMSCMD, up 6% from FY24
- LPG pipeline throughput reached 4,478 MMTPA
- Natural gas trading volume was the highest-ever at 101.49 MMSCMD
- Petrochemical production and sales rose 6% and 7% respectively
- Expansion plans include new polypropylene and PTA plants under GAIL Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd.
Leadership in City Gas Distribution (CGD)
GAIL and its group entities now hold the largest CGD footprint in India, authorized in 72 out of 307 Geographical Areas.
Key achievements–
- 12.28 lakh new PNG connections
- 507 new CNG stations
- Combined CNG and D-PNG sales reached 15.4 MMSCM, representing a 54% market share
Record LNG Imports and Breakthrough in LNG Shipping
GAIL imported a record 141 LNG cargoes during FY25. The company also–
- Sourced 5 spot cargoes and 112 MMSCMD RLNG to maximize summer power generation
- Completed breakwater construction at Dabhol LNG terminal, making it an all-weather port
- Inducted a new LNG carrier ‘GAIL Sagar’, chartered till 2038, the longest charter in GAIL’s history
- Signed a new charter deal with K-Line (Japan) for 2027–2038

Legal Milestones and Strategic Settlements
In January 2025, GAIL successfully recovered USD 285 million in claims from SMTS for non-supply of contracted LNG volumes.
Additionally, GAIL signed its second Advance Pricing Agreement with the Central Board of Direct Taxes for LNG imports from the U.S.
Push into Renewables, Biogas, and Clean Fuels
GAIL is diversifying into future-ready energy solutions–
- First Compressed Biogas (CBG) Plant inaugurated in Ranchi by PM Modi on 2nd October 2024
- Strategic partnership with TruAlt Bioenergy to develop 10 more biogas plants
- Established 12 LNG/LCNG fueling stations across highways and mining belts
- Ongoing investment in green chemicals, hydrogen, CCUS, and synthetic natural gas (SNG)
The new joint venture with Coal India Ltd, named Coal Gas India Ltd, will build a coal-to-SNG plant in West Bengal with ₹1,350 crore incentives under the Ministry of Coal’s RFP.
Digital Transformation and Financial Innovation
GAIL has become the first Maharatna PSU to fully implement SAP S/4 HANA on i-Cloud, enhancing digital efficiency.

- Migrated to Group Reporting for financial consolidation
- Rolled out Vendor Invoice Management portal
- Continued development under Project Sanchay-2 with 30+ data analytics use cases
- Launched GAIL Global IFSC Ltd. at GIFT City to manage treasury and explore ship-leasing
Sustainability, Governance, and CSR Excellence
GAIL maintained a stellar HSE score of 96.37%, exceeding its target of 95.5%.

Procurement achievements–
- Business worth ₹2,114 crore transacted via GeM, exceeding targets
- 48% of eligible procurement made from MSEs, with above-target contributions from women- and SC/ST-owned enterprises
Future-Ready with Research, Innovation and Social Impact
GAIL has acquired 30 acres in Sohna, Haryana, to establish a cutting-edge R&D center.
Under its CSR initiatives, GAIL positively impacted over 15 lakh individuals, while promoting the use of natural gas as a cleaner energy alternative.
