New Delhi: India-Germany ties have reached an all-time high, according to German Ambassador Philipp Ackermann. He said both countries are expanding cooperation in renewable energy, defence, trade, technology, and investment. The ambassador also expressed confidence that the proposed India-EU FTA could be signed soon, opening new opportunities for businesses and strengthening the long-term strategic partnership between India and Germany.

India-Germany Ties Continue to Grow Stronger

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Ambassador Philipp Ackermann said India and Germany have become closer every year. He described the bilateral relationship as one of the strongest in recent decades, with cooperation expanding across political, economic, strategic, scientific, and environmental sectors.

The partnership reflects the shared commitment of both countries to sustainable development, innovation, clean energy, and global stability.

India-Germany Ties: India Becomes a Global Leader in Renewable Energy

The ambassador praised India’s achievements under the Partnership for Green and Sustainable Development (GSDP). He said India is now among the world’s leading renewable energy producers and has made remarkable progress in solar, wind, and clean energy projects.

Ackermann added that Germany has proudly supported India’s green transition and is now learning from India’s rapidly growing private sector and innovation ecosystem.

India-EU Free Trade Agreement Could Transform Business

One of the biggest highlights of the discussion was the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The German ambassador called the agreement a “game changer” for businesses and investors. According to him, once signed, the FTA is expected to:

  • Increase bilateral trade between India and Europe.
  • Encourage higher German investment in India.
  • Improve market access for businesses.
  • Strengthen manufacturing and technology partnerships.
  • Create new employment and economic opportunities.

He also said the agreement is less controversial in the European Parliament than many previous trade deals and expressed optimism that implementation could begin after the signing process.

India-Germany Ties: Defence Cooperation Enters a New Era

India and Germany are also strengthening defence cooperation. Ackermann said defence relations, which had previously progressed slowly, are now entering a completely new phase.

He noted that discussions on submarine cooperation and defence technology have created fresh momentum and that future collaboration is expected to become much larger than before.

The growing partnership supports both countries’ shared interest in maintaining peace, security, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

Germany Welcomes Diplomatic Progress in West Asia

The ambassador also welcomed the recent reduction in hostilities in the Persian Gulf. He said improved regional stability has positively affected global oil prices, energy markets, and international trade.

Ackermann further expressed hope that diplomatic negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear programme would continue successfully and contribute to long-term peace.

What is the Importance of India-Germany Ties

India and Germany are among each other’s most important strategic partners. Germany is one of India’s largest trading partners in Europe and a major investor in sectors such as manufacturing, automobiles, renewable energy, engineering, digital technology, and research.

As India continues its economic growth, stronger cooperation with Germany can accelerate investments, technology transfer, clean energy projects, defence manufacturing, and skilled workforce development.

Experts believe that the proposed India-EU FTA could significantly increase bilateral trade and strengthen India’s role as a global manufacturing and innovation hub.
