New Delhi: The PM Internship Scheme eligibility expansion has brought a major opportunity for students across India. The Government of India has now allowed final-year students to apply for the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS), making it easier for youth to gain real-world work experience while still studying. This step is expected to benefit lakhs of students by improving their skills and employability.

What Is the PM Internship Scheme?

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) is a flagship initiative launched by the Government of India under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Its main aim is to provide practical work experience to young people by placing them in top companies across multiple sectors.

The scheme connects education with industry by offering structured internships, helping students become job-ready.

Key Update: Final-Year Students Now Eligible

In a major policy change, the government has expanded the eligibility criteria of the scheme.

  • Final-year students can now apply for internships
  • Age limit has been widened to 18–25 years
  • Internships will be available through the official PMIS portal

Earlier, students pursuing full-time education were largely excluded. This update removes a major barrier and allows students to gain experience before completing their degree.

PM Internship Scheme: Mandatory Requirement for Final-Year Students

Students in their final year must meet an important condition:

  • They need to submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their college or university
  • The NOC must confirm that the internship will not affect academic work

This ensures that students can balance both studies and internship responsibilities.

Updated Eligibility Criteria of PM Internship Scheme

To apply for the PM Internship Scheme, candidates must:

  • Be an Indian citizen
  • Be aged between 18 and 25 years
  • Not be in full-time employment
  • Be studying or have completed education such as Class 10, 12, ITI, diploma, or graduation

Now, final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students are also eligible, which is a major expansion.

Stipend of PM Internship Scheme

Selected candidates will receive:

  • Monthly stipend of around ₹9,000
  • Hands-on experience in top companies
  • Industry exposure and skill development
  • Certificate after completion

This financial support helps students manage expenses while gaining valuable experience.

How to Apply for PM Internship Scheme

Students can apply through the official PM Internship portal by following these steps:

  1. Register online
  2. Fill in personal and academic details
  3. Upload required documents (including NOC if applicable)
  4. Choose preferred internship roles
  5. Submit application and wait for selection

Government’s Objective Behind the Move

This decision is part of the government’s larger vision to:

  • Reduce the gap between education and employment
  • Increase youth participation in internships
  • Improve job readiness among students
  • Promote skill development across industries

The scheme is expected to create large-scale internship opportunities in top companies, boosting career growth for young Indians.

Impact on Students

This change will:

  • Allow students to gain real-world experience before graduation
  • Improve chances of getting jobs after college
  • Provide financial support during studies
  • Enhance practical skills along with academic learning
