New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has introduced revamped versions of its flagship mobile applications – the TRAI DND App and the MySpeed App – aimed at empowering telecom users to curb spam, monitor network performance, and improve overall service quality.

The launch of these applications marks a strategic regulatory step to make consumer reporting easier and network testing more transparent, especially in a rapidly evolving digital connectivity ecosystem.

Background of TRAI DND and MySpeed App Upgrade

India’s telecom landscape serves more than 1.31 billion subscribers, including over 1 billion broadband users, making it one of the largest in the world. With such scale, consumer complaints — especially about unsolicited calls and poor network experience — are a persistent concern.

TRAI’s revamped mobile apps aim to strengthen user participation and transparency in resolving these issues.

Details of TRAI DND and MySpeed App Upgrade

Here are the key details of TRAI DND and MySpeed App upgrade;

What’s New in TRAI DND Upgrade

The TRAI DND App has been redesigned to simplify how users report spam calls and messages:

  • Simplified interface for quicker complaint registration.
  • Multilingual support to reach users across India’s diverse linguistic regions.
  • Fewer steps to register spam complaints and manage preferences.
  • Tracking with Reference IDs so users can follow up on complaints.
  • Know Your Sender Feature to identify messages from registered telemarketer headers and the 1600 series.

In 2025 alone, over 17 lakh spam-related complaints were registered through the DND app, enabling effective regulatory action against unregistered telemarketers and repeat offenders.

Enhanced Features of TRAI MySpeed App

The revamped TRAI MySpeed App now offers consumers a robust tool to assess real-world network performance:

  • Download and upload speed testing under actual usage conditions.
  • Latency, jitter, and packet loss measurement, offering deeper insights into network quality.
  • Simulated tests for video streaming and web browsing, reflecting everyday user experiences.
  • Advanced testing options, including scheduled tests and continuous testing across locations.
  • Historical performance insights displayed via interactive geospatial maps.

This enables users to make data-driven decisions when choosing or reporting on telecom service quality.

Importance of TRAI DND and MySpeed App Upgrade

The redesigned apps provide consumers with the tools to directly contribute evidence and feedback on:

  • Spam and unsolicited communications,
  • Real network performance challenges,
  • Service provider responsiveness.

These inputs feed into TRAI’s regulatory oversight, helping shape policies and actions based on real user experiences.

Simplified & Accessible Processes

With a user-friendly design and multilingual capabilities, the apps now cater better to diverse Indian users — including those in regional and rural areas — making it easier to participate in telecom governance.

Availability on All Major Platforms

Both revamped applications are being rolled out for Android and iOS, improving accessibility across devices.

Key Vision Behind TRAI DND and MySpeed App Upgrade

Commenting on the launch, TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti emphasized that the upgraded solutions are designed to be intuitive, responsive, and aligned with modern communication challenges. He noted that these tools enable users to play an active role in elevating service standards.

This initiative reflects TRAI’s broader commitment to boost consumer confidence, promote transparency, and improve telecom service quality through collaborative reporting and regulation.

Looking Ahead

In addition to the revamped DND and MySpeed apps, TRAI plans further enhancements, including a revamped MyCall app launching in March 2026, which will allow users to provide direct feedback on call quality.
