New Delhi: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing India’s maritime capabilities at the 15th Annual Shipping & Logistics Conclave 2026, organized by The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCC&I).

Cmde Vinith Aerat, IN (Retd.), CGM (B&TD, CC, NPD) at GRSE, shared an in-depth roadmap for strengthening India’s shipbuilding and ship repair ecosystem, highlighting initiatives to modernize infrastructure, integrate advanced technologies, and boost domestic and international competitiveness.

GRSE’s Transformation into a Modern Defence PSU

Speaking at the conclave, Cmde Vinith Aerat highlighted GRSE’s journey from a historic shipyard to a modern, multi-unit defence public sector undertaking (PSU). Today, GRSE has the capability to execute multiple projects simultaneously, managing a diversified order book that spans both defence and commercial vessel segments.

The shipyard has also expanded its export footprint while enhancing production capacity and project execution efficiency. This transformation aligns with India’s broader maritime ambitions, reflecting the nation’s focus on building self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Emphasis on Infrastructure and Advanced Technology

Cmde Aerat emphasized GRSE’s investments in infrastructure modernization, advanced ship design capabilities, and technology integration. The company has adopted digital shipbuilding tools, upgraded yard facilities, and implemented innovation-driven processes to improve competitiveness and reduce delivery timelines.

He further stressed that building strong domestic shipbuilding capabilities is critical for supporting India’s maritime growth trajectory, reducing import dependence, and fostering a globally competitive shipbuilding ecosystem.

Supporting India’s Maritime Vision

The conclave provided a platform for industry leaders, policymakers, and maritime stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing India’s shipping and logistics sector. GRSE’s roadmap is in line with the country’s push for self-reliance in defence shipbuilding, expansion into international markets, and the development of a robust ship repair infrastructure capable of meeting both domestic and global demand.
