Ahmedabad: Gujarat’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Singh Malik, a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Gujarat cadre, office has registered 28 FIRs on serious complaints received through its public grievance mechanism since the facility began functioning in February this year.
The Jan Sampark Karyalaya, set up at Police Bhavan in Gandhinagar on February 4, has received 310 in-person representations from complainants across Gujarat, including from Kutch, Saurashtra and south Gujarat, according to officials cited in a recent report.
Complaints Scrutinised Before Police Action
The representations are examined on the basis of available facts and evidence before being forwarded to the concerned police units.

Officials said around 28 complaints were found to have serious prima facie substance, following which directions were issued for immediate registration of FIRs at the respective police stations. The grievance office has also sought progress reports in around 67 cases, allowing senior officers to monitor the action taken after complaints were referred to district and city police units.
Eight Applicants Face Action Over Allegedly False Complaints
The grievance mechanism has also been used to scrutinise complaints that police considered potentially false or malicious.
Officials said eight applicants faced legal action after their representations were examined and allegedly found to be false or malicious.
A dedicated team headed by a police inspector-rank officer handles the petitions under a standard operating procedure and coordinates with senior police officers in the districts and cities concerned.
The mechanism is intended to provide a channel for complainants to bring grievances directly to the state police leadership while enabling senior officers to follow up on cases after they are referred to the appropriate police units.
