Gandhinagar: Gujarat Police organised the ‘We Salute Our Mentors’ programme at Police Bhavan in Gandhinagar, honouring more than 30 retired senior police officers who served the Gujarat Police at senior ranks, including DGP and ADGP.
The event was attended by retired police officers, their family members and serving senior officers. The honourees were presented with books as part of the felicitation ceremony.
Initiative Started by Former DGP Vikas Sahay
The programme is part of an initiative started about two years ago by former Gujarat Police chief Vikas Sahay (IPS: 1989: GJ), to recognise senior officers who contributed to the state’s police service and to acknowledge the role of experienced officers in guiding younger personnel.

Gujarat DGP G.S. Malik, a 1993-batch IPS officer of the Gujarat cadre, spoke about the role of senior officers and mentors during the early stages of a police officer’s career. He recalled his own probation and training experiences in Himatnagar and referred to guidance he received from senior officers during his field training.
Malik also recalled experiences from his postings in Junagadh, Prantij and Porbandar, including lessons related to discipline, police-station management, election arrangements and field inspections.
Retired Officers Share Experiences
Among those present at the programme were retired DGPs P.C. Pandey (IPS: 1987: GJ), S.S. Khandwawala (IPS: 1973: GJ), Satish Sharma (IPS: 1986: GJ), Meera Ramnivas, Pramod Kumar (IPS: 1983: GJ), Ashish Bhatia (IPS: 1985: GJ), Shivanand Jha (IPS: 1983: GJ) and Vikas Sahay (IPS: 1989: GJ), along with retired ADGPs including R.P. Priyadarshi (IPS: 1988: GJ), Vijaysingh Guman and J.S. Bindra, according to local reports.
Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot also spoke about the experiences of police personnel and the contribution of their families during demanding postings and duties.
