New Delhi: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has appointed Anindya Biswas, DS & DG (Aero), DRDO, as a Part-time Official Director (Government Nominee Director) on its Board with effect from October 7, 2026.
The appointment follows a letter issued by the Ministry of Defence, Department of Defence Production, dated October 1, 2026. HAL’s Board approved the appointment at its meeting held on October 7, 2026.
Anindya Biswas replaces Dr. K Rajalakshmi Menon, whose nomination as Government Nominee Director was withdrawn by the Ministry of Defence.
Anindya Biswas Appointed to HAL Board from October 7
As per the Ministry of Defence directive, Anindya Biswas will serve as Part-time Official Director (Government Nominee Director) on the HAL Board with effect from October 7, 2026, and will continue until further orders.
The appointment is subject to approval by HAL shareholders at a General Meeting.

HAL said Biswas is not related to any other director of the company and does not hold any shares in HAL. He is also not debarred from holding the office under any order issued by SEBI or any other regulatory authority.
Dr K Rajalakshmi Menon’s HAL Board Nomination Withdrawn
Dr. K Rajalakshmi Menon, who served as a Non-Executive Director and Government Nominee Director, ceased to be a director of HAL with effect from October 7, 2026.
She had been serving on the HAL Board since September 13, 2024. Her directorship ended after the Ministry of Defence withdrew her nomination.
The change is part of the government’s process for appointing and revising nominations of Government Directors on the boards of public sector enterprises.
Anindya Biswas Brings Extensive DRDO Experience
Anindya Biswas brings more than three decades of experience in defence research and development to the HAL Board.
He joined DRDO in 1992 and has worked extensively on the indigenous design, development and production of advanced avionic sub-systems for various missile systems.
His work has covered several major defence programmes, including:
- Glide bombs
- Anti-radiation missiles
- Surface-to-air missiles
- Ballistic missile defence systems
- Anti-ship missiles
- Anti-tank missiles
- UAV-launched missiles
He currently serves as DS & Director, Research Centre Imarat (RCI), DRDO, and has contributed to the development of technologies supporting India’s indigenous defence capabilities.
Biswas Recognised with DRDO Awards
During his career, Anindya Biswas has received the DRDO Young Scientists Award and the Scientist of the Year Award for his contributions to advanced avionic technologies.
He has also played a role in promoting an agile and innovation-focused work culture aimed at developing disruptive technologies for futuristic weapon systems.
His experience in avionics and missile technology is expected to complement HAL’s work in indigenous aerospace and defence manufacturing.
Educational Background of Anindya Biswas
Anindya Biswas holds a graduation degree in Electronics and Telecommunications from Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur, and an M.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from IIT Kharagpur.
His academic background, combined with his long association with DRDO, has supported his work in advanced defence electronics and avionics.
HAL Board Meeting Approves Government Nominee Appointment
HAL’s Board meeting on October 7, 2026, considered and approved the appointment of Anindya Biswas based on the Ministry of Defence communication.
The meeting commenced at 2:00 PM and concluded at 3:30 PM.
The appointment strengthens HAL’s Board with specialised expertise in indigenous defence technologies, missile systems and advanced avionics, supporting the company’s broader focus on strengthening India’s defence production capabilities.
