The centre has been launched under the Skill and Technical Development Scheme with the stated objective of promoting the handloom sector, preserving traditional crafts and providing employment opportunities to local women and weavers.

Women to Receive Six-Month Handloom Training

The Handloom Centre of Excellence will provide women with approximately six months of basic handloom training.

The training will cover:

  • Operation of handlooms
  • Weaving
  • Techniques for textile production

According to the information provided by the Madhya Pradesh government, women will also be trained to operate charkhas at home. The initiative is expected to enable participating women to earn around ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 per month through the work.

The centre will also work towards restarting the production of cotton and other fabrics in Ujjain. A plan for silk production, along with cotton production, has also been mentioned.

CM Yadav Operates Charkha at Training Centre

During his visit, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav interacted with women present at the centre and sought information about the handloom industry and the training being provided.

He also operated a charkha at the training centre.

Yadav directed that continuous training programmes should be conducted on the first floor of the centre so that more people can receive training and employment opportunities.

Mrignayani Gets Government-Owned ODOP Digital Platform

Speaking at the programme, Yadav also highlighted an achievement involving Mrignayani, which operates under Madhya Pradesh’s Cottage and Village Industries Department.

According to the government, Mrignayani has become the country’s first government-owned digital platform focused on One District One Product (ODOP).

The platform is intended to give local products from Madhya Pradesh a digital presence and provide artisans, weavers, craftsmen and entrepreneurs with access to national and international markets.

Khadi and PM MITRA Park Also Highlighted

Yadav said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, khadi products made in India have been taken to markets around the world.

He also said that the profits of the Khadi and Village Industries sector had increased by more than 200 per cent over the past 12 years.

The Chief Minister further referred to the foundation stone laid last year for the PM MITRA Park in Dhar, describing it as the country’s largest industrial park.

Centre to Be Expanded Across Madhya Pradesh

Additional Chief Secretary of the Cottage and Village Industries Department K.C. Gupta, in his welcome address, said the centre had been established to promote khadi and village industries and provide handloom training.

Gupta said the model would be expanded across Madhya Pradesh and that training would provide employment opportunities to more people.

During the programme, MP Assembly member Anil Firoziya also spoke about the initiative and said it would help women become self-reliant.

The Handloom Centre of Excellence will provide approximately six months of basic handloom training, covering handloom operation, weaving and textile-production techniques.
