Hyderabad: Trainee IPS officer Uday Krishna Reddy (2025 batch) has been sent to Chanchalguda Central Prison after Hyderabad Police questioned him for two consecutive days in connection with allegations of sexual assault and attempted murder involving a fellow trainee at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad.

Reddy was questioned at the Attapur police station after the Rajendranagar court granted police custody for two days on Wednesday. Following the completion of the custodial interrogation, investigators produced him before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

Police Question Trainee IPS Officer for Two Days

The police custody was sought as investigators continued their probe into the allegations made by Reddy’s fellow trainee.

During the two-day interrogation, investigators questioned Reddy about the allegations of sexual assault and attempted murder and recorded his statement.

A key focus of the investigation was reportedly Reddy’s mobile phone, which police believe could contain crucial evidence related to the case. However, sources said the accused did not disclose the whereabouts of the phone during questioning.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar also visited the Attapur police station on Thursday evening and reportedly questioned the accused in connection with the investigation.

The investigation is being led by DCP Lavanya Naik, who heads the Women’s Safety Wing, along with Inspector Jyotsna.

Court Had Earlier Rejected Interim Bail

The Rajendranagar Metropolitan Magistrate Court had earlier rejected an interim bail plea filed by Reddy in connection with the case.

He was subsequently presented before the Upparpally Court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody. He has since been lodged at Chanchalguda Central Prison.

The police had sought custodial interrogation to facilitate further investigation into the allegations and gather additional evidence.

Investigation Focuses on Allegations and Evidence

Investigators are examining the allegations made by Reddy’s colleague and are seeking to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.

The police have also been examining potential electronic evidence, including information that may be available on Reddy’s mobile phone.

The accused’s statement was recorded during the custodial interrogation before he was produced before the court.

As the investigation progresses, police are expected to examine the available evidence and statements of those connected with the case.

Suicide Note and Hospitalisation

Following registration of the FIR, Reddy was admitted to Jayanti Hospital in SR Nagar after his family reportedly discovered a suicide note and suspected that he had attempted to take his own life.

However, a subsequent medical examination reportedly concluded that he had become unconscious due to excessive alcohol consumption. The medical examination did not confirm a suicide attempt.

The circumstances surrounding his hospitalisation were therefore also examined as part of the developments following registration of the case.

Reddy Had Denied Absconding

Before his arrest, Reddy appeared in an interview with a local television news channel and claimed that he was staying in his native village of Ullapalem in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district.

During the interview, he said his grandmother had fallen ill after learning about the allegations against him.

Reddy also acknowledged that police had attempted to serve notices but maintained that the addresses visited by investigators were only his temporary residences.

He denied allegations that he had absconded from the investigation.

High Court Petition Scheduled for August 26

The legal proceedings in the case are continuing alongside the police investigation.

Both the Rajendranagar Metropolitan Magistrate Court and the Telangana High Court have declined to grant interim relief to Reddy.

He currently remains in judicial custody at Chanchalguda Central Prison.

The Telangana High Court is scheduled to hear his petition seeking quashing of the FIR on August 26. Meanwhile, the trial court is yet to decide on the police request for further custodial interrogation.

Police Probe Continues

With Reddy currently in judicial custody, investigators are continuing to examine the allegations, statements and available evidence in the case.

The alleged sexual assault and attempted murder charges remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings. The court will determine the legal course of the case based on the evidence presented before it.

The next significant developments are expected to come from the High Court hearing on August 26 and the trial court’s decision on the police request for further custodial interrogation.
