Hyderabad: The arrest of trainee IPS officer M. Uday Krishna Reddy (2025 batch) has become one of the most talked-about controversies involving probationary officers at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), Hyderabad. The case has drawn national attention not only because it involves two IPS probationers but also because of the serious allegations of sexual harassment, assault, criminal intimidation, blackmail, stalking and circulation of a private video.
The controversy has unfolded over several weeks, beginning with allegations made by a fellow trainee IPS officer and culminating in Reddy’s arrest after an intensive police search. The case has also witnessed legal proceedings before the Telangana High Court, conflicting versions from both sides, medical examinations, an internal academy inquiry and the transfer of the investigation to Hyderabad’s Women’s Safety Wing.
Here is the complete story of the case and the developments so far.
From Andhra Pradesh Constable to IPS Officer
Before entering the IPS, Mr Reddy served as a constable in the Andhra Pradesh Police. He resigned from the force in 2019 to pursue his dream of becoming a civil servant.
His journey attracted widespread appreciation after he cracked the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had publicly congratulated him for his achievement.
Reddy’s rise from a constable to an IPS officer was seen as an inspirational success story.
However, that journey has now been overshadowed by a criminal case registered against him while undergoing IPS training at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad.

Complaint Filed by Fellow Trainee IPS Officer
The case stems from a complaint lodged by a woman trainee IPS officer, who was also undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy.
According to the complaint filed on July 18, the alleged harassment had continued from June 23 to July 10, 2026.
The complainant alleged that Uday Krishna Reddy:
- Sent sexually explicit and abusive WhatsApp messages.
- Made derogatory remarks about her before fellow IPS probationers.
- Spread allegations regarding her personal relationships.
- Issued criminal threats.
- Blackmailed her using personal information.
- Secretly recorded a private video.
- Sent that private video to her husband.
- Physically assaulted her on multiple occasions.
The complaint led to registration of an FIR at Attapur Police Station, Hyderabad, under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.
Serious Allegations of Physical Assault
Apart from allegations of digital harassment and blackmail, the complainant accused IPS Reddy of physical violence.
According to her complaint, he allegedly:
- Wrongfully restrained her.
- Pulled her into his room.
- Grabbed her by the hair.
- Attempted to strangulate her.
- Held a knife to her neck.
- Prevented her from leaving the room.
- Assaulted her again the following day.
- Touched her inappropriately and attempted to touch her private parts.
She further alleged that he forcibly took her mobile phone, compelled her to reveal its password and accessed her personal messages before allegedly recording a private video without her knowledge.
According to the complaint, the video was later forwarded to her husband in an attempt to blackmail and intimidate her.
Medical Examination Reveals Injury Marks
A significant development came after doctors conducted a medical examination of the complainant on July 18, the same day the FIR was registered.
According to the medical findings, doctors observed:
- Ligature marks around the neck consistent with attempted strangulation.
- Contusion injuries near the cheek.
- Injury on the left leg.
These findings have become an important component of the ongoing police investigation.
Internal Inquiry at National Police Academy
Following the complaint, the National Police Academy initiated an internal inquiry.
According to reports, the academy’s inquiry committee examined CCTV footage and other preliminary evidence.
The committee reportedly found prima facie merit in the allegations, following which Uday Krishna Reddy was placed under suspension while the criminal investigation proceeded.
Reddy Rejects Allegations
Mr Reddy has consistently denied all allegations.
He has maintained that the accusations are false and claimed that they arose out of a failed personal relationship.
He has alleged that the complainant was previously in a consensual relationship with him and that the criminal case was filed out of personal resentment.
Chronology of the Case: From Alleged Harassment to FIR
June 23, 2026
According to the complainant, this was when the alleged harassment began. She claimed that Reddy started sending sexually abusive WhatsApp messages while both were undergoing IPS training at SVPNPA.
June 23–July 10
The complainant alleged repeated incidents of sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, physical assault, blackmail and stalking during this period.
July 18, 2026
The woman trainee IPS officer lodged an official complaint at Attapur Police Station.
An FIR was registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
Medical examination of the complainant was also conducted on the same day.
July 19, 2026
The National Police Academy’s internal inquiry reportedly examined CCTV footage and preliminary evidence.
The committee found prima facie merit in the allegations, after which Reddy was placed under suspension.
On the same day, he posted statements denying all allegations and described the case as a conspiracy.
High Court Proceedings: Uday Krishna Reddy Seeks Relief
As the investigation gathered pace, trainee IPS officer Reddy approached the Telangana High Court seeking to quash the criminal case registered against him.
On July 21, 2026, he filed a petition requesting the court to set aside the FIR registered at Attapur Police Station. Along with seeking quashing of the case, he also requested directions restraining the police from taking any coercive action against him during the pendency of the proceedings.
However, when the matter came up for hearing, the High Court declined to grant him immediate protection. The court observed that it could not issue directions preventing the police from carrying out the investigation at that stage and postponed the matter for further hearing.
The refusal to grant interim relief meant that the investigating agency remained free to continue its probe and take action in accordance with law.
Investigation Handed Over to Women’s Safety Wing
As the seriousness of the allegations became apparent, senior Hyderabad Police officials transferred the investigation to the Women’s Safety Wing.
The probe was entrusted to DCP Lavanya Naik Jadhav, who heads the SHE Teams, to ensure that the investigation was conducted by a specialized unit dealing with crimes against women.
Women police officers subsequently visited the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy and recorded the complainant’s detailed statement. Investigators also questioned academy officials and began collecting digital and documentary evidence connected with the allegations.
The investigation focused on the alleged WhatsApp conversations, mobile phone records, CCTV footage, electronic devices and the alleged circulation of a private video.
What Uday Krishna Reddy Claimed Before the High Court
In his petition before the Telangana High Court, Mr Reddy presented an entirely different version of events.
According to him, the complainant and he had developed a relationship while they were undergoing training in Mussoorie. He claimed they were emotionally as well as physically involved and had planned to marry after joining the civil services.
Reddy alleged that the relationship later deteriorated after the complainant suspected him of having an affair with another woman.
He further claimed that the complainant subsequently married an IAS officer in May 2026.
According to Reddy, after both joined the National Police Academy in Hyderabad, the complainant allegedly approached him again after realizing he had no relationship with any other woman.
He claimed that she frequently visited his room and tried to revive the relationship, but he refused because she was already married.
Reddy further alleged that when the complainant’s husband came to know about these interactions, she allegedly told him that Reddy was harassing her.
According to the petition, when the complainant’s husband contacted him seeking an explanation, he attempted to explain their previous relationship. When the husband allegedly refused to believe him, Reddy claimed he sent a video of the two being intimate during their training in Mussoorie.
He argued before the court that the complainant became resentful after this episode and subsequently lodged a false criminal complaint against him.
On these grounds, he sought quashing of the FIR.
The investigating agencies, however, have not accepted these claims, and the allegations remain under investigation.

The Suicide Note Controversy
Even before his arrest, another controversy erupted after reports surfaced suggesting that IPS Reddy had attempted suicide.
Initially, speculation suggested that he had consumed poison or sanitizer and had left behind a suicide note.
Subsequently, Mr Reddy himself stated that he might have written the alleged suicide note while under the influence of alcohol.
He also publicly maintained that he had not committed any offence and reiterated that he intended to prove his innocence through the legal process.
Doctors Rule Out Suicide Attempt
Medical examination later brought a significant twist to the episode. Doctors treating IPS Reddy reportedly concluded that he had not attempted suicide.
According to the medical opinion, he had lost consciousness because of excessive alcohol consumption rather than any act of self-harm.
Doctors further stated that the alleged suicide note appeared to have been written while he was intoxicated and that he reportedly did not even remember writing it.
These findings ruled out suicide as the cause of his hospitalization but did not affect the criminal investigation into the sexual harassment allegations.
Police Search Intensifies
Following his discharge from hospital, Hyderabad Police attempted to serve notices on Uday Krishna Reddy.
However, according to investigators, he could not be located at his registered Hyderabad addresses.
His mobile phone was reportedly switched off for several days.
Police teams searched multiple locations while attempting to trace him, leading to reports that he was absconding.
Special teams were formed to locate him before the next stage of the investigation.
Uday Krishna Reddy Breaks His Silence
While police teams were searching for him, Mr Reddy issued a public statement denying that he had absconded.
He said, “I did not flee anywhere. I came to our native village, Ullapalem, because our grandmother is unwell. I have faith in the justice system and the police. I will cooperate with the inquiry and prove my innocence. No notices have been received at my permanent address.”
His statement came shortly before police intercepted him on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
Arrested Near Hyderabad
On July 28, 2026, Hyderabad Police finally took trainee IPS officer Uday Krishna Reddy into custody.
Police intercepted him at Damaracherla in Nalgonda district, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, while he was reportedly travelling to attend proceedings connected with his High Court petition.
He was taken to Attapur Police Station, where his arrest was formally recorded.
The arrest marked the culmination of several days of police efforts to locate him.
Medical Evidence Strengthens Investigation
Another important development in the investigation came through the complainant’s medical examination.
Doctors who examined the complainant on July 18 found:
- Ligature marks around the neck indicating possible strangulation.
- Contusion injuries on the cheek.
- Injury on the left leg.
Investigators are examining these medical findings alongside witness statements, CCTV footage, digital evidence and electronic records collected during the probe.
Produced Before Court
Following his arrest, Hyderabad Police produced Uday Krishna Reddy before the local court at Uppal on July 29.
The court remanded him to police custody, allowing investigators additional time to interrogate him and gather further evidence.

Latest Status of the Case
As of July 29, 2026, trainee IPS Reddy remains under investigation in connection with allegations of sexual harassment, assault, stalking, criminal intimidation and blackmail made by a fellow trainee IPS officer.
The Women’s Safety Wing of Hyderabad Police continues to investigate the allegations under the supervision of DCP Lavanya Naik Jadhav.
The investigation is expected to focus on forensic examination of digital evidence, statements of witnesses, electronic records and other material collected during the course of the inquiry.
Meanwhile, Reddy continues to maintain that he is innocent and has claimed before the Telangana High Court that the allegations are false and stem from a failed personal relationship. The complainant, on the other hand, has alleged prolonged harassment, assault, intimidation and blackmail during their training at the National Police Academy.
With the criminal investigation still underway, the case remains one of the most closely watched controversies involving probationary IPS officers in recent years.
