New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has announced that Himanshu Jain (IRSSE, 2007 batch) has taken on the additional responsibility of Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of the company. He is currently serving as CVO at South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) and has previously held the same position at Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL).
His new role at MCL is expected to further strengthen vigilance systems and improve governance standards within the organisation.
Strong Academic and Professional Background
Himanshu Jain is an accomplished officer with a strong academic record. He is a gold medalist in Electronics & Telecommunications Engineering from NIT Raipur and also holds a postgraduate degree from IIT Bombay.
He secured All India Rank 9 in the UPSC Engineering Services Examination (2007) and joined the Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers (IRSSE).
Career in Railways and Infrastructure
Over the years, Jain has contributed significantly to Indian Railways. His experience includes leading major railway infrastructure and signaling projects and serving in key administrative positions such as:
- Deputy General Manager (DGM)
- Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO)
- Secretary to General Manager
His work has been widely recognised for improving efficiency and operational coordination in railway systems.

One of his notable initiatives is ‘DigiCOAL’, a digital governance project that was showcased at the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) National Workshop.
